    Bee Heavy

I vote no infection, based entirely on that I've noticed this happens frequently and seems infections have rarely occurred. If this happened to me I would not be overly concerned, but then with my few months of experience I could be totally underestimating the potential for infection.

    Managing the Homebrew Pipeline

I'm finally getting a small inventory built up but I still make monthly trips to the beer distributor. One mistake I made that is slowing up my production was brewing a saison which is going to be another 2 months before ready to taste. I have a lot of things I want to try but hate to tie up all...

    Palmer's Maple Syrup Recommendation

Palmer's maple syrup recommendation is to add 1 gallon of grade b syrup to 5 gallons of beer. This seems like a lot to me but it is what he recommends for a noticeable maple flavor. Also he recommends to add it after the primary. If I do add it after primary about how long should I do a...

    First Brew fermentation

That's pretty much how all my brews have gone so far. Bubbles like crazy for a few days then down to no bubbles. If I tap the airlock gently I can coax a bubble out.

Good website to buy extract kits?

My first kit was a pale ale and I was very happy it was not infected and astounded that it tasted great. I didn't take gravity readings and had no idea what a late hops addition was.

    second brew-my notes

That's about how long it took my first few batches to cool but I had the last batch 3.0 gal cooled down in about 35 minutes.

MR Beer Vanilla Bean Porter Experiment

Your advice is what I plan to do. But still wondering if I can improve this Mr. Beer with a different yeast and maybe the addition of wood chips.

Saison Lower FG & Higher ABV

It'll be in primary three weeks this Sunday. I'm planning on moving it to a carboy this weekend so I can free up my primary. I planned on letting it go in the carboy 3-4 weeks. Is that too long of time in the carboy? I've read that saisons need more time conditioning than most other beers...

    Pumpkin Beer in February??

Sounds like this could be a good experiment. Drink some now, allow some to condition until summer, then break open the remaining in the fall.

Give me a reason to not taste my beer yet!

I say taste one at 1st week, another at 2nd week, then another at third week, you'll notice the improvement as the weeks go on. And it's educational. Once you see the improvement between 1st and 2nd week you'll never want to waste your beer by drinking on the first week. Next Saturday is 3...

Saison Lower FG & Higher ABV

So my Brewers Best Saison has been in the primary for nearly three weeks, I took a gravity reading tonight and was a bit surprised that I'm missing the recommended FG and ABV by quite a few points. Recommended OG - 1.048-1.052 My OG - 1.052 Recommended FG - 1.011-1.015 Tonight's Gravity...

    Brew for the old man

My father is the same way but I think I think I'll let him try my red ale, and if he likes it I'll brew him a batch of his own (I can't do lagers). I brewed my first red ale last month and so far it's been a hit with a few Miller Lite drinkers who have tried it.

    Chocolate Stout

Is a method of sterilizing the coconut not necessary? I want to do this one too so let us know how it goes.

    Time to bottle?

With a beer like this ABV shouldn't really matter all that much. I just brewed a red ale, had it in the primary for three weeks and bottled for two weeks. Sampled a cold bottle on Sunday and it was totally fantastic, much better than Miller Lite could ever taste, and even better than the red ale...

MR Beer Vanilla Bean Porter Experiment

Hey all, While I have two beers in primary I've run out of fermenters, so I thought I'd like to break out my Mr Beer fermenter and do an experiment. I want to do a vanilla bean porter using the Mr Beer American Porter refill. I plan to brew the beer according to directions but add some...

How to take the next step - expansion

You need to find another brew shop then because I can get a 6 gallon bucket with the spigot and airlock hole, grommet and lid for $24. I have two now and getting another next month. The wifey wants to do wine so I figure I'll get one every month until I have four or five of them. Can't have the...

    Racking to bottle bucket

I have three fermenters and they all have spigots, and they always will for now on. It just makes things so much easier, and I've never had trub close to the spigot. I even tilt the bucket about an inch or so to get the last drop, and still no trub. -DZ

Airlock stops bubbling after two days

Most of mine only bubbled for 2-3 days except for my saison which bubbled off and on for about 10 days.

    Winter is gone

Last summer I tried a blueberry wheat beer, and the bartender actually threw some blueberries in the glass. Seeing those blueberries floating around in the glass was fun, and the beer was seriously good beer. I'm looking for a recipe like that for this summer.

    WOW beers! What are yours?

My lady is not a beer drinker in any way, but she just sampled my Red Ale with me and she loved it. Said she might have to help me drink it up. I'm pretty amazed with it too, and it has another week of bottle conditioning to go, can only get better. This might be my WOW! beer, and I'm likely...
