Best water profile for a Kveik IPA

Never used any Kveik yeast yet and am curious if I should be playing around with a different type of water profile or just use a recipe I like and keep everything but the yeast the same. I'm assuming Kveik doesn't require anything different other than more nutrient. But, does it?

    Making a starter with Hornindal

Yep, I have a stir plate. I wanted to make a starter and overbuild it so that I can save some for another brewday coming up. I thought I'd just make the starter overnight and right before pitching (no decanting) I'd just save about 1/2 liter for the future.

    Making a starter with Hornindal

I assume if I am making a starter using Hornindal, it's best to do it at a higher temp like 85 and not crash it. Just do an 18-24 hour starter and pitch? Does that sound about right?

    WLP075 Hansen Ale

I've got my second one fermenting now only 4 days in and I see less activity but no reading yet. I aerated it well, gave it yeast nutrient and a bit bigger pitch than needed. I think I'm good or hope so.

Brewing Tomorrow - Need Advice On Grain DIpH

I brewed yesterday and tried to get as low as 5.2 and came in at 5.08. Being concerned, I added baking soda (man, a tiny bit goes a long way) and it went up to 5.26. Most of my beers have been 5.35-5.45 and I wanted to see if I can tell the difference. I hope so. Your program has been the most...

    First stab at an IPA

I would increase the hops a bit more for balance. That's not enough hops for an IPA in my opinion.

    WLP075 Hansen Ale

Made another starter for a beer this weekend with 075 and this time the starter looked much more like egg drop soup than it usually does. And, it wasn't nearly as active but it did do it's job. I've heard others mention that they felt the viability of this last shipment differed greatly in...

    WLP075 Hansen Ale

I've never really gotten anything English out of it except the way it looks in my starters and how it drops out. I do ferment most of my beers at 65-66 so maybe if I did at the higher end, say 70-72, I'd notice a difference. I simply get a clean beer with a better mouthfeel than when I use...

    WLP075 Hansen Ale

I gave my brother a vial of my Hansen yeast and he brewed a semi Wookie Jack clone. We kegged it Friday and it had an 81% attenuation. He didn't have any oxygen so we just shook the crap out the fermenter before adding the yeast. It was a bit slower than my past use though it was kegged on day...

Brulosophy Podcast: if Jersey and Tim were my neighbors I would move.

I usually listen to these podcasts at the gym and have found them humorous and fun. In fact, I love everything about these podcasts and support them as a Patron member. When I find slow or boring parts of any podcast, I just hit the fast forward button to bypass it and commercials. Just do...

    Water Volume - Pre Boil

+1 for Priceless. Been using it for years and works great for me.

    WLP075 Hansen Ale

@Nagorg, I may have missed it but did you oxygenate when you went into the fermenter? I know you shouldn't 'have to' but my brother just did a Firestone Wookie type beer 2 1/2 weeks ago and we mashed at 154 and it took off well and was pretty much at terminal in 8 days. He's only going the...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

My kegged kicked and I'm already thinking of brewing it again soon-ish. Not sure I'd do anything different but maybe add more oats for a bigger mouthfeel though I think the Denny's 1450 yeast really helped that a lot. You won't regret brewing this unless you just don't like stouts. Not a...

    Inkbird 308 Amazon Prime Day--$28

I didn't get one on Prime Day but got one about 2 weeks ago and the Wifi version works a treat! So simple even I can do it!

    Cool brewing fermenting bag

I no longer use one but when I did, in the winter, I was able to get to 48 a few times but had to switch the frozen jugs out more than twice a day. 55-58 was pretty easy.

    First use of Denny's favorite

I recently did a batch of Yoopers Oatmeal Stout with it and love it. I've also made Denny's Rye a few times and love this yeast with it as well as just about any IPA or Pale.

    WLP075 Hansen Ale

My past experience fermenting in the mid 60's, was an attenuation near 80%. It kicks off pretty fast too, at least in my experience.

I asked them about the option to have yeast shipped another way and to order more ice packs and was told they are going to implement some new things that allow us to choose different services and options.

    WLP075 Hansen Ale

How many days did it take to get yours and how hot was it? I only ask because it seems some people are having good luck even with it being 5 days and hot. My fingers are crossed as I make a starter this weekend.
