    Keezer problem

Yup, that was it. I put a Chimay glass on top of one of cornies and that just happened to be where the ice formation was. Got rid of the glass and all seems to be back to normal, thanks.

    Keezer problem

This is a question more for anybody who knows a lot about the workings of chest freezers. My keezer has been humming along for almost 2 years now on a Johnson 419 controller. Lately the temperature has been stuck at 41deg. I noticed an ice buildup on the front wall of the freezer and thought...

Northern Brewer Bourbon Barrel / variation idea?

I made this and used Wild Turkey 80 proof, 16oz. Soaked the oak cubes for a good two weeks and poured it all in the secondary. I'm very happy with the bourbon flavor and I don't think the Wild Turkey was "inferior" to something more expensive like Maker's Mark in this case. I like your idea of a...

    Another Lager How-to Question

Thanks Yooper, maybe I'll just do the rest anyway since it really can't hurt anything. The beer is sitting in a fermentation chamber in the basement so I'm not worried about skunking.

    Another Lager How-to Question

Hey guys, I'm doing an extract Czech Pils kit from Northern Brewer. I've done successful lagers in the past but I have a question about this one. OG was 1.045, I pitched a starter and left it in my ferm. chamber with the fridge off until I saw Krausen activity. This beer had the longest lag on...

Looking for ******* Brew in Richmond VA

Anybody who wants some send me a PM. My local supplier has a large stock of it right now at $10.99/bottle. I'm in the middle of a trade with a California HBT'er right now to get him some. I'm looking for Alaskan smoked porter or whatever else I can't get on the east coast.

    What does this mean?

Agree with Rawlus. I've always had foaming issues with commercial kegs that I don't get with homebrew. I solved the problem by turning the gas off to the keg and purging all of the co2 from the headspace (by pulling the little keyring on the release valve on the side of the coupler). Do this a...

Two questions. Adding oak chips in a secondary. 4 gallon batch in 5 gallon secondary

I agree that if it's a strong beer you shouldn't have any problem just throwing the chips in there. If you really want a little punch soak the oak chips in good bourbon for a few days then put the oak and bourbon in the secondary. As far as your second question, don't worry about the extra...

    Pliny clone

Yeah, the recipe called for 6.5lb light DME and 0.75lb Dextrose. Both were boiled for 90 minutes. I thought the recipe looked a little light, I guess I was right :drunk:

    Pliny clone

Brewed a Pliny clone this afternoon using the extract recipe from the recent Zymurgy magazine. I should have had an OG of 1.072 but ended up closer to 1.062. The wort tastes very hoppy. I'm not sure what to expect since I never had the real thing. Anybody think I'm gonna have a problem being...

Black IPA / Cascadian Dark Ale - Extract Brew?

Another vote for the Northern Brewer kit. My batch just came to "fruition" in the keg and it's really fantastic. The hops are dominant on the nose and they carry all the way through and then on the finish you get a nice light roastiness that really sets the beer apart from a regular IPA.

Proposed Lager Procedure (My First Lager)

I'm new to lagers too, but I've done 2 so far and they have come out good. I got my wort as chilled as I could with ground water, my last back which was Octoberfest I got to 68f and then pitched the yeast. I let it sit in my basement at 65f until I started seeing a krausen form, then I popped it...

Help, my Corny posts are leaking!

Lol, I would laugh at me too :ban: I just hope somebody else can learn from my ways. I pulled a bunch of hair out on this one and it was such a simple fix. Try a new QD... I just hope those "bad" QD's work on future batches of kegged homebrew!

Help, my Corny posts are leaking!

Haha Bobby, you might be right. Believe it or not, people who come to my house STILL want to drink that slosh over craft beer, that's why I have it. Anyway, I got a new QD from Williams and that solved the problem. I just can't see why both of the QDs I already had failed, but at least I am...

Help, my Corny posts are leaking!

They are both Cornelius Super Champions. I did buy new posts to match this keg style. I am going to try a new QD and that is the last thing I can think of.

Help, my Corny posts are leaking!

Nope, same problem persists, despite new posts, a different keg (which I had no problems with on my last batch of beer) and new o-rings all around. Seriously, what is going on here? I need to have this thing running by Saturday. I'm having a get together and people are expecting stout on tap...

Help, my Corny posts are leaking!

Alright, got my brand new posts from NB and popped them on, little bit of lube on the o-rings and same deal. Leaking from the QD when I hook it up. So I racked the beer into a different keg and put all new o-rings on that keg. I used the new posts I just got and hooked it all up and it...

Leaking all that sweet, sweet beer

Check the vid on page 3... look familiar?

Help, my Corny posts are leaking!

Alright, well I went ahead and ordered a new set of posts. The QDs are both new. I shall report back once I get them on.

Help, my Corny posts are leaking!

I did open the disconnect and the o-ring and spring are in good shape.
