    Purchase: AG System or Kegerator?

I'm sorta in the same boat, but I'm definately planning on getting a kegerator here before too long. I have 6ish cases of bottles that I have to store, clean, sanitize, fill, botttle, clean up afterwards etc. Bottling is a long procedure, and it requires assistance, I can't wait to start...

    Secondary Air/Headspace a problem?

How do you go about doing that? I never have enough beer to fill it to the neck...

    Sparging for Dummies

Okay, I did PM for my last two recipes and I think I screwed up the sparging. I drained out the mash wort and recycled it a little bit, but after a few cycles through, I put it in the kettle. Then I poured the sparge water into it (170º) and stirred it up, but I didn't let it sit for 10...

    Beer and weight loss (long)

wow, cool for you man. I'm not a fan of dark chocolate, and I don't really eat desserts in the first place. Heck, dessert for me is a nice IPA. My love of beer has put more weight on me than it has taken off of you :) I'm trying to minimize my consumption on the weeknights. going 4 days...

Tell me if you do this!!!

Bottleworks! They have hundreds of kinds of beer, and I never spend less than $30-50 there buying singles of all sorts of types of beer. http://www.bottleworks.com/beerlist.html

    Odd smell

What do you mean its your first time using hops? Have you been making hop-free beer? Are you fermenting in a pale or carboy? You're not dryhopping in the primary are you? And how hot is it where the fermenter is?

    Question about plastic fermenters.

I use a bottling bucket as my primary fermenter as well as for bottling. I use carboys for secondaries. I use a rag instead of a kitchen sponge to clean it, and yeah, it does smell like beer, but it doesn't smell like rotten beer. :)

Which of these will use more CO2?

Thanks man! They'll be cold whilst carbing in a kegerator :)

    Chipotle question...

wow. I would not use chipotles with the adobo sauce in the beer, there's bound to be oils in there that will likely do bad things to your head retention. Too bad you don't have time to roast/dry your own chipotles. I'd try to find an ethnic grocery store that has tried chipotles and use...

    Extract w/Grain vs. Partial-Mash

Ahh the twang! Personally I don't like it one bit, it seems to detract from the beers to me, reminds me that I made it (not the good kind of reminder). I think its related to carmelization of the extract. I know that my extract beers have all had a little of the extract burned on the...

Is There An Alternative To The Grain Bags?

Move up to partial mash its not much harder, and you don't have to deal with grain bags anymore after that :)

Which of these will use more CO2?

Is there a FAQ for kegging? I'm thinking about building a chest freezer into a kegerator, and I didn't know that you used two different tanks for carbing vs pushing beer through the taps. Don't you just carb at a certain pressure for a few days, then turn up the pressure to tap it?

    Beer Brewing software

Another vote for Beersmith. Very easy to use and seems to be pretty powerful.

Oxeygenated the S@#$ out of my beer!!

(clear your mind of dirty thoughts) Next time that happens when you're siphoning to the carboy, use a carboy cap and suck like you have never sucked before. You have to overcome the air bubbles with hydraulic pressure. I was racking my M&J clone to secondary this weekend and started seeing a...

Boil-overs left me short of 5g. Impact on taste?

DeathBrewer, do you mean its harmful to grains to steep or mash them in large amounts of water? you're probably right, you don't want to dilute the enzymes when mashing. (on a side note, Im brewing partial mashes right now, with full boils. I mash in just over 2 gallons of water and I sparge...

Beer deficit: last batch long gone.

don't screw around and go buy some IPA. Just tell yourself you need more bottles and its more economical to buy them with beer already in them, then drink them. :)

I'd ask for input on this IPA recipe...

hmm. I have a pack of hops in my freezer that I didn't label. from my first batch, which I lost my recipe of. I'll have to see if I can get it again and find out if they're useful to dryhop with.... Is there a general rule of thumb, if a hop smells good its good to dryhop with? :D I'm hoping...

I'd ask for input on this IPA recipe...

but I already brewed it, so I'll have to let you guys know later on. I had a bunch of leftover hops in my freezer from previous brews, I've wanted to make an IPA for a while, as its my favorite beer, but I hadn't gotten around to trying a recipe yet. Let me know how you think this is going to...
