Can we address the dry yeast yeast starter concept again?

Boom. This is right. I only brew Belgians and read every sliver of information I can find about them. There is a strategy to underpitch Belgians. I have tried it and always got stuck Fermentations The 2 most important thing in a Belgian is yeast vitality and temperature control. I typically...

Can we address the dry yeast yeast starter concept again?

Mr malty doesn’t let you choose a pitch rate or even state what it is. My guess it they use .35. I use 1.0. The calculator I use is brewers friend

Can we address the dry yeast yeast starter concept again?

I've never used dry yeast in 10 years of brewing. I've made a starter for every beer since my first. I can't find Omega Belgian A anywhere and its summer, so I'm gonna give dry a shot. I am leaning towards a starter. The sticky at the top needs to be edited. If the only reason we don't use...

Can we address the dry yeast yeast starter concept again?

Required. Such an interesting word. Of course it’s not required, I could just by 2 more packs of yeast. I’m not really surprised the manufacturer likes this idea. I don’t understand why brewers endorse it though My calculator calls for 333 billion cells. The packs has 111 billion at best. That...

Can we address the dry yeast yeast starter concept again?

Safbrew be-256 yeast is $6 pack and should contain approximately 110 billion cells. Brewing a 1.065 Belgian Blonde at a 1.0 pitch rate calls for 330 billion cells. That is 2 additional packs or $12. a 2 liter starter is 210 grams of dme. which is $2.99 at Morebeer. It is not just as cheap to buy...

    What disaster bottling was l.

I'm not sold on my Ferrari Deluxe bench capper. I wanted a queen lux when I got it, but they were out of stock everywhere. I need a bench capper for my belgian bottles, but I think my wing capper works better on normal bottles

What size knockout for 1/2 weldless bulkhead

I bought some punches that were for conduit so they’re 3/8 bigger than the size i.e. the 1/2 inch was actually 7/8 I’m still looking for a 1/2 i ch that is 1/2 inch hole size to move my brewmometer

    Knock out punch sizes misleading

Ok so the Greenlee 13/16 is hole size. The 1/2 says it’s 7/8 hole size. I had no idea that it was sold conduit size instead of hole size.

    Knock out punch sizes misleading

I bought a set of knockout punches that say they are 1/2, 3/4, etc. the 1/2 is actually 7/8 the 3/4 is actually 1 1/8. I have read and watched videos on drilling holes in your kettle and no one mentions this. As I looked further into it, I’m finding that apparently they are for conduits and the...

    HLT Size for Herms

I have been debating a Blichman herms coil. I’m kinda stuck because I eventually want my 20 gallon Blichman to be my HLT and that would need a large coil. So I decided to try out my unused immersion chiller a few times. Plus I have 2 propane tanks so I can heat my mash tun and my herms coil at...

    HLT Size for Herms

Cheers everyone. I BIAB. My mashes are typically 8.2 to 9.3 gallons. I have been doing step mashes with boiling additions. I decided to try my old copperhead immersion chiller on as a herms coil. I have a 5 gallon and 10 gallon pot either of which I can use as an HLT to house the herms coil. I...

    just received old yeast

Gotcha. It would work out perfect to be around 99 billion dead cells. Maybe I will get a little experimental and see how big the off color is in my new starter for comparison I washed the yeast off a Saison I made a few weeks ago. That stuff is doing great in my new Saison. I normally don’t do...

Not buying yeast from them so it’s moot at this point. Shipping me 5 month old yeast is not ok. I don’t care if the hand carried it in a refrigerated truck.
