    Blood Orange Hefeweizen

I used 7 lbs of bulk wheat LME from my LHBS, as it was cheaper than two 3.3 lb cans. And what's .4 lbs extra LME? Well, I had 5.25 gallons in a 6 gallon carboy and, well, It was ACTIVE! I used WLP300 Hefeweizen Ale Yeast... You will need a blow off tube of some sort. I would go HUGE on the...

    Propane Burner?

I use this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000BXHL0/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 brings 7 gallons of wort to a boil in about 10 minutes. You don't have to drop a lot of cash. I don't know if I could fit a bigger pot on it or not without modification. Sometimes I think people like to go...

American Lager Pottsville Common (Yeungling Lager Attempt)

Just wanted to post an update to the process of my brew... I bottled this beer last Monday (4/19/2010). I had it fermenting for 3 weeks, the last 1.5 weeks were at about 58-62 degrees in an ice water bath. All the hydro samples were delicious! Well, out of curiosity, my brew-sistant and I...

    Stick on thermometer defective???

Dude, it was one of these: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/fermometer.html what could cost $12 about something like this? I have many probe thermometers and digital thermometers... This just gave me ballpark temps of the fermenter.

Did the White Labs California Ale yeast smell anything like vinegar?

    Stick on thermometer defective???

So I have one of those stick on carboy thermometers on my glass carboy... I had it in a swamp cooler for a week and a half, but the thermometer was never "submerged" but may have been wet from the t-shirt pulling up liquid. It worked fine the whole time it was in the swamp cooler. On bottling...

    Is my beer infected

Was this a vial of the White Labs California ale yeast? I refused to use a starter I made from it for my last beer as it smelled like vinegar MAJORLY. I just capped my fermenter, went to the LHBS got another vial of WLP001 (California Ale yeast) and just smelling that from the vial smelled...

American Lager Pottsville Common (Yeungling Lager Attempt)

The Nottingham is STILL working its magic. I have it in an ice water bath right now at about 57* for the last week. It has went down to 1.010 since the 04/08/2010 when it was 1.012.

    Kits

To save time and scrouging around, you may want to buy a kit with a case of bottles. Two cases would be good, and then by two 6's of microbrew for the other couple bottles. I remember a while back I bought my father in law a case of 16 - 16oz bottles of Old Mil for like $16 or so. Hey, it's...

    Blood Orange Hefeweizen

While I don't remember my actual gravity readings for this brew, I know mine turned out a little lighter and a little high on the alcohol side as I used 7 lbs of wheat LME, instead of 6.6 lbs of LME. It's tasty and can be drank one of two ways, the traditional homebrew way which leaves the...

    stick on thermometers

For example, this one: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752201 I don't think this one goes low enough. 64* is not quite low enough for me.

    stick on thermometers

You may want to check the range of that. The ones "designed" for fermentation have a "Lager" and an "Ale" range. I forget what it is off hand, but I know it dips down pretty low and goes up pretty high. If it went down to 32 and up to 80, I guess that would work... :) If you plan on doing...
