    Help with my hops

Thanks for the help Hopfarmer. I'll see what I can find at my local Ace hardware store.

    Help with my hops

On the left most picture, ignore the brown, wilted leaves. That is not part of this issue. Something broke that bine off at the ground. I'd remove it, but there are other bines wrapped around it... :)

    Help with my hops

I know, I know, another hop nutrition question... I'm not sure if I have one issue or possibly two issues here. These hops are 2nd year Nuggets. They are growing like beasts. All new growth appears to be yellow(er) then the first bines of the year. Also, some of the early growth is cupping...

I think you might need more then 9420. :) unless it's 09420 then I feel like a fool.

Why are my 2nd year hops growing burrs already?

I've got the same situation on a Nugget hop plant that is a 2nd year plant. It's reached the full height of my 12' trellis design already, and it's bushing out at the top. It's got little BB sized hop flowers now, but hundreds of them. AND I just planted 5 Cascade rhizomes this spring, and...

    Just getting started..

Glad to see a hop farmer in Central PA. Have you contacted any of the many local micro/nano breweries offering them hops for sale? Just curious. I've always toyed with starting a small scale hop farm in the area. I have two standing invitations for an acre or two of land to get started from...

    Too late to plant rhizomes?

It's never too late to plant! Just kidding, you're still in a "growing" season, and like was mentioned, at least they'll root and hopefully produce a crop next year. But then again, I planted some Cascade rhizomes in the beginning of April and the darn things have hop flowers started already!

    Over-carbonation...what happened?

I think you'll always have enough yeast in suspension, unless you use a clearing agent, or some kind of filtering device/process. I think you'd be surprised how much you stir up when you rack from secondary to bottling bucket.

    Hops spreading...already??

Or is it possible that a bine grew horizontally under your mulch?

    Hops spreading...already??

I'd give that a few days to see if it is a hop sprout and a squirrel or chipmunk didn't bury something in your hop bed. :)

My first hops grow. Open to good advice!

That's pretty good customer service right there!!!

    Grain Disposal

There are so many things you can do with them, and everyone hit just about every point. I give some to my in-laws to feed to their chickens (in exchange for eggs) - chicken crack, lol; give some to the other in-laws to feed to their horses as a snack; give some to the neighbor for bread in...

should i add more base malt or more of everything?

I would have to agree with Yooper here. I would up everything proportionally. Beersmith could do that work for you...

    Raspberry Wheat

Chris hit a lot of points on that I agree with. I would just throw a handful or two of rice hulls in, and sparge slowly. Also, 4 oz's of raspberry extract is way too much. I bet you could get away with a tablespoon of it or two. That stuff goes a long way...

    First Try Lager

You may have problems getting the bottles to properly carb. Another thing, a general rule of thumb is lager 10 degrees colder then you fermented. So, if your fermenting at 45, lager at 35. If your fermenting at 50, lager at 40. You may want to save some of the slurry from the primary, after...

How to train your Hop Plants?

Instead of wrapping the bines around the 4X4, could you just screw in some eye bolts that might hold some twine about 2 inches away from the 4X4?

Show off your 2012 Hops garden!

Oh, and my wife thinks I'm nuts too. I've already had my Nugget hops grow around 10" a day in their first year (last year)...

Show off your 2012 Hops garden!

I check mine daily. I like to take a sharpie with me and mark the twine where the growth stops, so I can see how far they grow daily, or weekly... My Nugget bines are insane, at about 5' already in Central PA!
