Anyone have a solid Dark Czech Lager - Recipe

Barke Pils is definitely my normal go to, just had some Mecca grains to use at the time. Happy brewing!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Wasn't planning on brewing this weekend, but my relatives kicked all three of my beers this past Sunday, the savages that they are! Out of beer for my homebrew club meeting tonight, going to get so many demerits! :p So probably will whip up an American Stout this weekend and get my Altbier...

    Gorden Biersch Marzen

This is a good recipe. He takes a bunch of award winning recipes and comes up with a mean average recipe. https://recipe.brewfather.app/lOcPvHcmjXpe8OursRTLLxvY6pWgWK His walk through of recipes are on Youtube, here's for the Marzen.

Anvil bucket - Ball Lock Question

Is the first time using the Brew bucket? If so, there probably isn't anything in the valve that would cause an infection. You can always mix some StarSan and water in a spray bottle and with the ball valve closed, spray up the valve to sanitize the outer part of valve. My biggest concern...

    Yeast can be temperamental

For the most recent one with WY2278 it was a 1 liter starter that ran on stir plate for 3 days, pitched into a 2.5 gallon 1.045 OG beer. Finally have a krausen this morning at about 92 hours post pitch. I will say the yeast pack was a little old, it's best by date was mid-December, so it was...

    Yeast can be temperamental

Speaking of temperamental yeast, I am really getting fed up with Czech lager yeasts. They all seem to take days to get going. Brewed a Czech Pale Lager Saturday, pitched a starter of Wyeast 2278 Sunday morning, oxygenated for 2 minutes with 02 and almost 72 hours later, nothing. Used WLP800...

    German Pilsner color/clearness

Ignore the color when looking at it in the fermenter like that...light refraction plays tricks on the color. Have had plenty of golden colored beers look reddish in the fermenter. You want to know if it's golden, use a wine thief and pull a sample. Here's an example of light...

    Lagering

The main purpose of lagering is to let the beer clear, condition and clean up after itself. Fridge temps are best but storing it in a closet or basement at room temp will work but can take longer to clear. In a shed in Ohio, my concern would be if you get really cold weather and temps drop...

    Is My Porter Sufficiently Baltic

Love love love WLP860. It's pretty much becoming my go to yeast for most of my lagers. Only used the San Fran lager yeast because I had just taken a Common off if it and figured what the heck. Of course I love WLP860 so much because I was in Germany last year for Oktoberfest and between...

    Is My Porter Sufficiently Baltic

Recipe looks good to me. Brewed one myself recently that's currently cold crashing. I went with the following for a 2.5-gallon batch: 49.6% Maris Otter 24.8% Munich Malt 3.9% Chocolate Malt 3.9% Crystal 60 3.9% Special B 1.6% Black Patent 12.4% DME (Using a 6.5 gallon Foundry and was...

    Where to Find Ireks Malts?

Yeah I think a lot of European malts are more expensive these days. Few online shops I use always seem to be out of a lot of Euro malts. One of these days I will get to the malthouse in my state that has a partnership with Ireks and get a sack through them. My big question there is if they...

    Where to Find Ireks Malts?

Mainly their base malts, Pils, Munich and Vienna. When using in the past I preferred them to Weyermann's base malts, though Weyermann's Barke malts are much better.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Didn't do much for beer this weekend except moving my Altbier and Baltic Porter to fridge to begin a slow cold crash. Also rebuilt my 13 years of brewing spreadsheet that I use to track brews, comps entered, scores, etc. My work network got hacked last week and since I use Dropbox to sync a...

    Dry Yeast Derived from Augustiner?

I have never used Biofine, but I think gelatin works just as well, and maybe even better. I misspoke though when I said Clarity Ferm as it's Clearzyme that I use. Basically the same thing as Clarity Ferm just made by a different company. However I like that fact that it reduces the gluten...

Are dark malts out of stock nationally??

Just an FYI, if a kit is out of stock, most of the shops you mention list the recipe of the kit on their websites. You can easily just order the ingredients individually. Have done that sometimes myself and in some cases, it can even be cheaper than the kits.
