Need black pipe tap tower advice

Thanks for replying. I mostly had my mind made up when I posted this but wanted to post what I had been wondering in case it helps someone else. Here's what I went with 1. The closed foam pipe insulation made for 1" copper pipe fits perfectly inside the 2" pipe (looks like a black pool...

    2F/priming with fruit juice

So, I'm in the middle of 1Fof my first kombucha batch and have been doing some reading about 2f, both here and on a Facebook group. I see a lot of people dealing with bottle bombs and gushers as well as a lot of people unaware of the fact that you can control carbonation based on the amount of...

Experiment: PBW vs Oxyclean vs Homemade PBW

Not sure if you are asking about adding vinegar in the solution with PBW or using it separately, but I had residue issues after soaking in oxyclean and wiping/rinsing the bottles with white vinegar did the job. I don't use it in my current homemade mix but I don't see why you couldn't give it a...

    Refermentation in secondary?

Thank you for all of the replies. This is all very interesting information. You have definitely given me some information to read up on. The fermenter had sat dormant for the last 3 years (due to a move) and was previously used for a clean beer. The only thing I can think of for contaminated...

    Refermentation in secondary?

Hi guys. I'm looking for some feedback on how I should handle this batch. Some history: A few weeks ago I brewed 5 gal of an all Cascade pale ale (loosely based on Deschutes Mirror Pond) that called for 3 oz of hop pellets in secondary with Imperial Yeast A07 Flagship (Chico strain). This is...

All Grain split batch stove top configuration question

I had a similar process to you for several years. Only difference is that I collected into a single vessel (like a bottling bucket) and then transferred it into the 2 pots after collecting all of the wort. Your "T" idea seems like a simpler solution, though.

    Homemade PBW Recipe

What does metasilicate do only with aluminum that it doesn't do for other things? BLC is KOH based. Would that be appropriate in special circumstances? It's probably too expensive for routine use.

Split top coffin keezer with black pipe tap towers-build thread

Yep, just lift it off. The sides and the back 2x2 are precisely spaced so it is a snug fit. I have to wiggle it off and on. It was/is on my list to do a tube fan set up but now I'm not sure that it is necessary. I haven't checked for temp stability or stratification and the temp probe is just...

Split top coffin keezer with black pipe tap towers-build thread

Stay tuned for pictures of the inside and line runs. That is what I am currently working on and it is a complete mess right now.

Split top coffin keezer with black pipe tap towers-build thread

Finally, the tap towers. Since I still have one more tower to build I will probably do a separate build thread for that. Here are the clif notes: All 2" black pipe & fittings in stock at Menards. Floor flange connects to a 12" pipe, then to a T which connects to street elbows. At each street...

Split top coffin keezer with black pipe tap towers-build thread

Then I attached the final top, which is solid 5/4" pine (actual thickness 1"), as well as the rest of the "skins". For the side skin I used 1/4" red oak plywood and 1/4"x4" aspen boards. I glued and air nailed into place. Retrospectively, I wish I had gone with all red oak instead of aspen...

Split top coffin keezer with black pipe tap towers-build thread

Next came insulation and drilling holes for the tap towers. The second picture is an upside down pic of the insulation inside the 2x4 tap tower. I used 3/4" extruded polystyrene foam board. This had the best compromise between thickness, R value, and messiness. Before I glued it in place, I...

I had to move the power cord location so it would run out the back and not the side.

Split top coffin keezer with black pipe tap towers-build thread

Here are pics of the empty space and initial collar/frame build. The collar is 2x6 with a 2x4 collar on top of that in the back for the taps. The rest of the frame is either 2x4 or scrap 2x6. Here is the freezer I am using...

Split top coffin keezer with black pipe tap towers-build thread

I'm posting my keezer build because I have not seen one designed quite like it and I used so many ideas from so many other threads here to develop my plan that I feel the need to pay it forward. My plan is to make several posts of the different stages of building along with a parts list at...

    Regulator check valve replacement

I thought about buying those but then I would have extra ball valves lying around but I already had set in my mind to go the route I did. In the end, what I got is only $2 less than what you found so minimal savings.

    Regulator check valve replacement

Thanks. I might have to go that route. Most everything else I can find is going to cost me $25 or 30.
