    London Ale III - Wyeast 1318 - Consistent over-attenuation?

Hmmm maybe that’s it. I mash for a total of 90 mins. After 45 minutes I stir the grain bed and then go for another 45 mins

    London Ale III - Wyeast 1318 - Consistent over-attenuation?

I just tested my hydrometer in distilled water and it was 1.00. I have a Grainfather so I go by the temperature on there. I'm thinking next time I should take the top plate off about 15 mins or so into the mash and stick my thermapen in the grain bed to see what the temperature is. Could...

    London Ale III - Wyeast 1318 - Consistent over-attenuation?

Hey guys, I'm a little stumped and was hoping someone could help me out. Let me start by saying I brewed Braufessor's blonde with 1318 and harvested the yeast. After racking, I stirred up the slurry and transferred into 6 different sanitized pint sized mason jars. About 2oz of compact yeast in...

    1318 Over-attenuation

Bringing this thread back. What made you determine it was mildly infected? I’ve been gotten 78-80% attenuation on my last 3 batches with 1318. Found this thread while trying to figure out what’s going on

    Fermentasaurus and Blichman Beer Gun

Were the bottles cold? If they were warm then it’s going to give you foam. Try reducing pressure and use cold bottles and cold beergun

    Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

Yup they both spin all the way around but one side just doesn’t seem to get as tight as the other

    Fermentasaurus 2nd Generation

https://www.kegland.com.au/kegland-fermentasaurus-2-50l.html Scroll down and there’s a PDF with the dimensions. I believe those numbers are in millimeters

    Fermentasaurus 2nd Generation

Awesome! Can’t wait for the v2 now. Only problem I can think of is when I do my second dry hop with NEIPA’s. My practice now is add the first DH right after high krausen and then the second DH goes into the serving keg prior to transferring from the fermenter. I can imagine some nucleation...

    Fermentasaurus 2nd Generation

I can’t believe I haven’t heard of the fermentasaurus until now! It looks really promising. So essentially it’s kind of an alternative to fermenting in a keg? Would it be possible to attach a spunding valve to ferment under pressure and also naturally carbonate towards the end of fermentation?

    Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

Good idea! I will be calling them tomorrow for sure. I just looked at the product page on AIH and it looks like they're able to adjust down to .025". There's no way I could achieve something that tight with how it is right now. Yes, I loosen them and then use the side knobs to adjust. I can...

    Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

Was able to adjust it down to .036 after taking it apart and messing with the 4 screws in the pic I uploaded. I had to loosen two of them in order for the non adjustable roller to be straight with the other roller. Otherwise one side of the gap would be more loose than the other side. With...

    Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

I can rotate them but the rollers never touch. Doesn’t get any closer than .038” for some reason. I might have to take it apart and see what’s up. Thanks for your input

    Cereal killer mill adjustment problems

Anyone have any issues with their cereal killer? I’m using a feeler gauge to adjust the crush but the rollers just can’t seem to get any tighter than .038”. Also wish I got a feeler gauge sooner. The writing on the mill for the gap settings is wayyyy off

    Blonde Ale Murican Blonde Ale

Very minimal. I didn’t use a bag or anything. If you look at my pic posted above, you can see very little debris in the jars. All I did was rack to keg then swirled the slurry that was left behind and poured into the mason jars

    Grainfather!!

This is great advice! How are you fitting ~20lbs of grains and water for the mash inside the Gf?! I’m doing a 16lb grain bill soon and with 1.7qt/lb I need almost 7gals to mash. Also, when do you sparge? I’ve been waiting until most of the mash water is drained before I start sparging. I wonder...

    Grainfather!!

Has anyone used extra sparge water for higher grain bills? I thought I read somewhere that people are getting better efficiency by using extra sparge water and then boiling to targeted preboil volume before starting their 60 mins

Training Wheels Berliner - good intro to sours

Understood. Cheers! Good point. I'll recirc for sure. I actually don't use the CFC anymore. South Florida water just isn't cold enough for it to be effective. I'm interested to hear how your batch turns out. Hopefully you don't have to dump it! Did you sanitize the saran wrap before placing...

Training Wheels Berliner - good intro to sours

I would eventually like to attempt this recipe with my grainfather as well. I don’t know much about sours, but I understand the need to boil to kill the bugs. However, wouldn’t people be afraid of any bugs surviving? Like in the pump or pump lines? Or should you run the boiling wort through the...

    Blonde Ale Murican Blonde Ale

Just racked my batch to the keg last night! Went from 1.050 to 1.012. It’s a little stronger than intended, but it already tastes pretty smooth and light. The great thing with this recipe is harvesting the yeast! I was able to get a few mason jars of 1318. Waited until the krausen fell (about...
