    Fermentation and US-05

Thanks, I want to sit on it for at least another week. If it could take 12 days in primary I may wait longer. I plan to dry hop for a week and cold crash before bottling. Most excellent advise.

    Fermentation and US-05

Hey all, I have a brew in the primary fermenting with us-05. I have heard this strain takes a while to finish. There has been a krausen ring in the fermentor for 5 days now, and there is still a raft of bubbles on top. The temp is between 65-68F. It has been eight days since fermentation...

    How did you find us?

I was thinking about brewing beer after I found out a few of my friends wanted to or were making wine. I am not that big on wine, and beer and I get along well. Then for Christmas I got two Mr. Beer Delux kits with the American Classic Light, I figure I can improve my beer drinking experience...

    hot and red face??

It might be an allergy, or you might have red mans syndrome. That is a simple niacin reaction from the niacin released by the yeast. I would have it checked, but if its red mans its not harmful, you just look sunburned, its called flushing.

So I really am a noob. I'm brewing an oatmeal stout as a partial mash for my third br

Thanks, I ran out of home-brew and don't really think BMC is the end all be all, so its hard to RDWHAHB. I am using an unused shower as the fermentation containment for overflow, its convenient as all I would need to do is wash it down.

    Rant about a noob

I wasn't there, nor do I know the intent of the offending comment, but it sounds like a few of my hiking buddies poking fun because they are excited. I am on brew three and know my beer isn't better than anyone's, but I enjoy the process, and that excites me.

So I really am a noob. I'm brewing an oatmeal stout as a partial mash for my third br

I have seen a low foam on top of this oatmeal stout for three days, but no real energetic krausen. I gently shook the fermenter yesterday, but fermentation hasn't picked up. I just read a thread on an IPA that didn't have a krausen and turned out. Is there a chance this is what is happening, or...

    How did you find us?

App Store by apple. Started when I got the idea that brewing might not be impossible after all.

So I really am a noob. I'm brewing an oatmeal stout as a partial mash for my third br

Thanks geoffm33, I was thinking the same thing. I was worried about the vent clogging, because the lid is opaque I wouldn't be able to see that. It sounds like problems start with pressure as vents become clogged.

So I really am a noob. I'm brewing an oatmeal stout as a partial mash for my third br

It's a small batch 2.5 gal, in a Mr Beer fermenter, and to try to prevent beersplossion I have put the lid on without tightening it, thinking less pressure less force. Any thoughts, thanks and cheers.
