    What are you drinking now?

Just testing a coffee stout I call Inverted Falcon, I'm going to give it more time. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    How does cold crashing work?

I was watching the Big Secue make apple jack and he used something that wine makers do to clear the apple jack. That would kill the yeast in the fermenter, yeast I use to carb up in the bottle. Folks here use Spanish moss or gelatin for flocculation. Would gypsum work as well, or is that a...

    How does cold crashing work?

Now that I have time to think about your comment, duboman, it makes a lot of since. I have heard on HBT there are some that will crash for 5+ days. Does anyone know of a maximum optimal length of time for ale vs. lager yeast? I'm a biology teacher, and have a tendency to over analyze a bit, so...

    How does cold crashing work?

I have a beer in a fridge at between 35 and 40 F right now until tomorrow when I bottle. I'm doing this because threads on HBT tell me the clarity of the beer will increase as the beer is chilled to 35 F for a few days. I was wondering if my conjecture on this phenomenon was correct, or if...

Partial mash BIAB number 2. Using a bigger pot and going for no spillage. Oats and co

Sorry freisste, I got caught up in the process. I didn't have a question, I was just so excited about the new equipment, and time that I had to tell someone other than SWMBO. She isn't thrilled with the smell of hot wart. I'm probably not the only one with this problem, luckily I have a solution...

    No krausen or airlock activity

I just had one that was really slow, these guys are right, more time. A lot more time. Try looking on Tuesday. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Partial mash BIAB number 2. Using a bigger pot and going for no spillage. Oats and co

No spill. No see um mesh works great as a filter for trub. Pitch temp 84. High but I started the yeast at 90 with 1 tbs DME. OG 1.047. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Partial mash BIAB number 2. Using a bigger pot and going for no spillage. Oats and co

Made it without boil over, but I'm pretty sure this is the last time I brew in the kitchen. Looking around I saw some caramel dip, not for this batch, anyone ever use it in a brew? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Fermentation and US-05

Thank you C-rider. I will keep that in mind next time I go to the hardware store. Definitely thinking about getting a 5 gal paint strainer. Is there a type I should look for? SWMBO is worried that I will poison myself if I use anything from HD, food grade comes up a lot.

    Fermentation and US-05

Thanks kharper6, nice to know. I think this one will probably go farther, it was dry, but felt like it had some co2 left in solution. It still needs some cleanup for clarity. I plan to recheck on Saturday. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Fermentation and US-05

So I used Brewer's Friend and have learned that I had really bad attenuation. I know the problem and I think I have already gotten the solution. The pot I used was not big enough to accommodate the brew size, plus the adhesive property of water mixed with the shape of the lip of the pot caused a...

Some people perception of a Home brewer or am I the only one?

You know, I have the same type of family most of you have. Some of the members are Teetotalers, and some are alcoholics, but in my immediate family I haven't got either. The words of warning I get are usually, make sure you don't go blind, an obvious misunderstanding of the process, and don't...

    Fermentation and US-05

TopherM I hear what you are saying. My OG was 1.032 with the correction for pitch temp at 74F. It's a 2.5 gallon batch held between 65 and 68 F. I wasn't planning to do and FG testing until this coming weekend. It's a dark oatmeal coffee stout, but I didn't have the equipment to do a full boil...
