    Brewing thermometer, scale ideas?

Hey all, Wifey's asking for Christmas ideas, and brewing stuff is always good. My last AG batch, 2nd time doing AG, figured I didn't have a good handle on how much volume I drained (no sparge) and questioning my kitchen thermometer I was using to monitor the mash temp. I'll make a measuring...

Serving beer at lager fermentation temperature?

I figured, serve at 40°, good lagering temp. So, I raise the temp to say, 50-55° for a lager primary for two weeks, or 60-65° for 1 week if an ale (all depending on the yeast - during those times, the gas is disconnected from kegs, and not serving. But long-term lagering at serving temp...

    Mixed Drinks

My house Old-Fashioned - spent some time getting this right for my wife and I, and adapted for not always having oranges around: In an old fashioned glass: One spoon (probably a tablespoon, I use our silverware) of simple syrup One spoon maraschino cherry juice two spoons orange juice one or...

    Cheap Keezer fan

Yep, that's what I did - old computer fan (12V) + old wall cell phone charger (also 12V) - worked just fine.

    Mixed drinks in a keg

I'd have a spare set of o-rings and spare liquid line since you're dealing with the coke, but assume the mix would come to equilibrium with your CO2 setting. Didn't think it'd seperate, but you could always give the keg a good shake - you using a smaller 3 gal keg or a 5 gal, filled up to 3?

Don't roast your own coffee beans!

Certainly a fun thing to try - used sweetmarias for my beans, use the hot air gun + aluminum dish method, works well - but isn't the end-all-be-all for coffee IMO. I blame my palate though - I get much more benefit, in my mind, by having a drip machine with an integrated grinder (blade, I know...

Slow leak - used the keg before:

Thanks, Briz - I'll do a more detailed checkout after I get the tank refilled this week - wifey delivered our 4th Friday, this was the "Baby Brown Ale" I made for her (an east 4.2% Newcastle style brown), so only did a cursory check Sat. when I saw there was a definite problem. Got a couple...

Slow leak - used the keg before:

Hello all, So, recently got into kegging - two ball lock soda kegs off of a dual regulator, 10 lb tank. First two kegs, no pressure drop on the tank gauge. I know - it typically stays high until a rapid drop to red when you're almost out. Anyway, emptied one, cleaned/sanitized/pressurized...

    Question about manifolds

Sounds right. I bought a dual regulator to support two different pressures to 1-2 kegs each (should have 4 kegs at max capacity). I also wanted two pressures. Think I'll maintain an assortment of liquid lines at set lengths with ball-lock disconnects and the shank nut, for each pressure...

Yet Another Keezer Build/DIY Guide (GE 7.0 cu. ft)

Tre9er, this thread was exactly what I needed - dimensions, inner and outer, including freezer hump for common chest freezers, with various options illustrated for different size collars: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/chest-freezer-specs-layouts-377518/index2.html For example, the same...

Yet Another Keezer Build/DIY Guide (GE 7.0 cu. ft)

Looks great! I went with the same freezer for mine, and made a collar from 1x8 too - stained it dark mahogany. Good idea on covering the joints with tape to keep glue from seeping out and messing up the stain - I have a few spots where that was a problem. Only have two kegs in right now, but...

Gift for my wife for first born

Not so much a keepsake, but I told my wife, as we were close to #1 arriving, that I'd bought her something as a "congratulations, we're parents" present (a 1 hour massage at a golf resort not far from us). Followed by saying if she was so inclined to present me with a comparably valued present...

First cider - 1 gal trial batch - too easy?

Thought I'd try a 1 gal trial for my first cider to decide if I prefer a dry finish, still, etc, or plan to back sweeten, force carb, etc (I have a kegging setup) 1 gal treetop apple juice (pasturized with asb. acid) Nottingham's dry yeast. NOTHING else...think it was about 1.040 before...

    Chest Freezer for lagering/kegging - FCM7SUWW???

Hello all, This is my first post here. I've been given clearance from the missus on a chest freezer for lagering. I'd like to be able to have two fermenters - either the usual 6 gal plastic buckets or 5 gal glass carboys, with airlocks or blowoff tubes, and any combo - (2 buckets, 2...
