    Dont Fear The Foam??

Star San doesn't kill yeast, no worries there. I pour my wort on top of a ton of star san foam and then pitch. Really - no worries at all.

Books. Whats the best one you have read lately?

Sahara was a movie based off his book. I've compared them, I prefer Clive's book but the movie is decent. By that I mean you'll recognize characters and things that a non-book fan wouldn't. Currently reading "Great Beers of Belgium" by Jackson. Love the subject, his writing - not as much...

    IPA=blah

You seriously aren't comparing to consuming mass quantities of juice and causing health issues to the idea there's no health issue with massive consumption of alcohol? Really? Cirrhosis of the liver, please look it up. As to the OP's original point, I agree. The IPA style hasn't ever...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

cadarnell - read up on price anchoring sometime. Fascinating stuff. The reason why a place might sell a beer at 15 bucks a bottle is to push more beer at 12 bucks a bottle. To a lot of people a 12 dollar single bottle of beer is too much BUT compared to a 15 dollar bottle next to it -...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

Please post where I said you don't know what is or isn't good beer. Please post where I've said only cheap beer is good? I can't make New Glarus' Apple Ale - so I pay retail for it. Once I CAN make their ale - I'll prob not do that. Doesn't mean it wasn't worth the price when I bought it - just...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

Also the reason you are privy to inexpensive beer in Ohio is because the same liquor stores receive a commission on their hard alcohols sold there with no purchase price. The liquor sold in an Ohio store is actually property of the state of Ohio and distributed to the store. They receive 4%...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

Agree completely. BUT once you've made the choice to purchase and the end result wasn't what you expected, based either on advertising or other people's recommendations, a reasonable person can understand that person's desire to let their displeasure known. Not saying HOW they did it was...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

Yeah - I could pay 45 dollars at the steakhouse but when I do spend only 15 bucks at home and it's JUST AS GOOD if not BETTER in many instances and it is about 19 times out of 20- it's not hard to understand why I'd say that particular steak house is overpriced/over hyped and NOT find much value...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

No - my sarcasm didn't come thru all that well on the "unwashed masses" part. (sounded better in my head) I hate the idea that if you disagree with a person in Sam's position that you're instantly jealous that he makes beer all day and you don't. I think that was part of it. I mean, who am I...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

Because not all beer is good (to me) and why should I be forced to accept crap (to me)? I beer based on what's IN the bottle, not who is ON the bottle. Some people hate the idea of being told a beer/brewery is "revolutionary" to the point of "must try" only to pony up good money for their...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

I do wonder if people are calling a brewery "over rated" because they did pay a premium for the brew and didn't like it. Willing to bet that if they were paying 4.00 a sixer, it wouldn't bother them as much. Not saying that all beers cost too much - as a home brewer I know how expensive it is...

    Sam Calagione on "Beer Geeks"

I have great respect for Sam the business man. Alternatively when his beer was available here, I just couldn't find one I liked. FWIW I agree with him, you can like or dislike a beer and so long as you back up why - feel free to share that opinion. It has worth. What doesn't have worth is...

    LHBS or On Line Retailer

I'd like to use my local more but they just don't have all that much for a selection. I use them to buy bottles and that's about it. Love to help local guys - I shop small whenever possible but I can't force a retailer to handle more inventory or better inventory. Thus - Northern Brewer gets...

    Oxy Clean For Firearms?

Guns DO go out in the rain and rather often. I don't know that Oxy would do the job better than something else tho. Once it's clean, oil it like normal and it won't be any different than being outside in the rain.

    Kegcowboy.com

I don't know what to believe but there's enough consistent smoke around these guys where I HAVE to believe there's some fire. I'll never do business with them. There's just too much going on with them - all the time. Too many threads.

    My yeast exploded!!

My first brew I pitched the vial direct - and I did have the "shaken soda" issue. I had the air lock gurgling in 18 hours.
