IC & whirlpooling not as effective as I'd like

There's quite a bit more to a heat exchanger than just a temperature difference. It's likely that many of the plate chillers have a significantly larger heat transfer area than a 50 ft. IC. In addition to temperature and area, mass flow (how much water) and flow velocity affect the third...

Dudadiesel plate chiller needs to be horizontal?

Water flowing downhill beer flowing up, or the other way around? Chances are you were getting some kind of pooling or funky flow. That's kinda interesting. It's possible that the wort (or water) favors some plate paths over others when you have it vertical and some of your plates don't get...

Can you guys see any glaring omissions?

That's what I needed! The line from the HX to the HLT will likely be a loose hose going into the top of the kettle, so it can be removed when the HLT is full... (unless I re-plumb the outlet every time I want to fill). I might change my mind on that. The plan was to have enough head to...

    Same Kit, Drastically Different Result

Can you guys see any glaring omissions?

Ok, so I put together a draft P&ID so I can have a rational equipment list. Can you guys see anything tragically missing? It's a HERMS system, and the boil kettle has a whirlpool (hence all the routing to the pump). I think we're going to go with a DC pump and PWM it, unless I can find a...

    Chiller Pressure Drop

I'll admit that my search-fu is weak, but does anyone know an approximate pressure drop across the water side of the commonly available plate chillers? I want to see what I can do with that water downstream.

    Working with triclamp/triclover

Generally, if you want a as tri clamp pipe, you would weld a tri clamp fitting to the end of the pipe. You also can use food grade hose and get tri clamp to barb adapters to avoid welding. The welding will take place when you go to modify your vessels. You'll have to weld on fittings there...

    New England Geeks!

Greetings from Connecticut and Massachusetts! I've been brewing for about 8 years now (5 of which have been all grain) and my sister and I have decided to embark on building a new system. She's the computer engineer who will develop all the software we are going to run, and I will be using...
