Used Plastic Buckets as a Fermenter?

soak it in bleachwater for a couple hours. something. anything. i've heard of people making summer cucumber ales, but pickle ales? might want to get that smell out unless you want some funktastic-tasting beers. and i don't mean the good funk. i feel your wish to be crafty with the lemons...

Color of Hoegaarden Wit more orange than yellow??

I'd recommend that you steep a lb of flaked oats for 30 before you start up your boil. It clouds the wit very much and lightened my extract wit from orange to a yellow golden.

    Looking for a recipe

I don't have a science to my fermentation temp but the room I keep it in maintains 64 to 68 temp.

    Looking for a recipe

I made two beers yesterday, both of which I think you could make and appease coors light drinkers (non beer drinkers). Cream Ale 5 gal 3 lb light lme 2 lb extra light dme Steep grains- 30 min steep Half lb caramel 10 4 oz biscuit malt 1/2 - 1 oz cascade at 60 mins 1/2 oz saaz at 15 mins...

    light ale recipes

Brewed the cream ale recipe yesterday. The aroma is unbelievable. I only made a 5 gal batch. I added a full oz of cascade at 60 instead of a half and then followed the saaz hop schedule. I'm already thinking highly of this one. It did rain inches of rain yesterday. That made it interesting...

    First 5 gallon batch!

collin, i did the same thing when i started. i'd get a kit and make it my own. it definitely is a way to familarize quickly with ingredients. based on you having an imperial blonde kit, i'm going to generalize on its style: 1. imperial= higher malt bill= higher alcohol content. imperial...

    Cheers to all of you!

when i started reading about brewing, i thought i needed a PhD if i ever wanted to succeed at making good beer. it was scary to think that there is so much to know about beer and its processes. it was overwhelming, so i know exactly what you're saying. try to learn one thing at a time. the...

    Halal Kombucha

idk dude, even odouls and other non alcoholic beer has at least some alcohol in it. you're going to have to force carbonate, just like the first person to respond to your root beer thread said. yeast pisses alcohol and farts co2 while eating sugar. if you're expecting to make co2 naturally...

    light ale recipes

That website is awesome. The pic shows the ingredients for the light ale recipe on the right and an easy Bavarian hef on the left. The ingredients came in 2 days from georgia to new york by fedex which was only a few dollars extra. Plus I was able to save that recipe so I can just click it and...

    Wyeast 1010 for dummies

i just got done writing on someone's thread that 3068 is the ONLY yeast i use for hefs these days. what happened? 1. You should be fine without starter. 2. I ferment at about 65-68, i try to keep it same temp the whole time. 3. There's no real reason to transfer, but if it makes you feel...

    Wheat Ale Yeast experiment

that's an awesome idea. i've thought of doing similar experiments- whether it be trying out a different type of malt, or the same malt but a different hops, or just a different strain of yeast altogether. but i never did it. the only thing i want to say is use weihenstephaner yeast from wyeast...

    Help with Fermentation/Krausen

let it ride man. i use a plastic bung to go inside the mouth of the carboy and then put the airlock directly into it. the yeast obviously had a field day on your wort. is it a high gravity recipe? this happened to me with a plastic bucket and an airlock. i had a little too much wort and thought...

What can I expect from steeping Golden Naked Oats?

i just did it in my extract Wit. I did a # which people said was too much. it adds a creamy transition to the brew, which i appreciated. it does make it cloudy though. quite cloudy in fact. but that's acceptable to me for a Wit. so basically, if the style calls for a cloudy hazy beer like a...

Recipe for Beer to Put on Tap at Pub/Bar

the only way you could fail is giving up on it. what's the worst that can happen? people drink your beer, tell you why they wouldn't drink it, and rate it. even the failures at the homebrew competitions get feedback to make their beer better...or in this case, better for your market. dr...

Recipe for Beer to Put on Tap at Pub/Bar

i'm gonna share with you a thought i've had for a while now. speak to the establishment about asking their insurance company about the legality of you offering free samples to people at the establishment. if you could do this, it would be an awesome "focus group" to find out what people are...

    Hello from Maine

i never went the mr. beer route, but i'm happy to see a person sharing the same love we all do on this forum- making beer. life is about to change for you. you're about to embark on a magical journey. an exploration into the unknown. think of the oregon trail in modern times, minus the...

edb thanks for the suggestions and more importantly, for introducing me to that website. don't know if you order from them but i just ordered ingredients for 2 separate batches for saturday-- that light ale plus a simple bavarian hef (i'm on a light kick lately). i copied your recipe...
