    Boil pot probe question

Did a water test with the PID "T" setting at "2" today I started with 100% and when it started to boil I dropped it down to 50% it worked perfect. The boil went good like is supposed to. This shows that the temperature probe doesn't need to be in the pot at all. I have it just attached to the...

    Boil pot probe question

In my setup notes I had "T" to be set at 2, but when I checked it just now it was set at 10. Thank you for hopefully finding my problem. I will test it tomorrow to make sure, but I am sure you are right BeardedBrews. Thank you again.

    Boil pot probe question

I did a water test with the probe out of the boil pot, (just hanging out I the air). I used the manual mode and at first put it on 100% to get it started, then turned it down to 50%. No matter where I put the Percentage the element would turn on then off then on. It wasn't a good rolling boil...

    HERMS coil size

I got a smaller HERMS coil. It seems like it would be the best fit for me. Thanks for the info

    Boil pot probe question

I just put together an electric brew system with a HERMS coil and using PID's for the HLT and Boil pot. In my HERMS pot the temperature probe is in an NPT female T fitting. My first test was just a water test. First I ran water in the pot and brought it up to temperature, I then realized I...

    HERMS coil size

I have a 10 gallon HLT pot that I converted to electric. I want to put in a HERMS coil. I do 5 gallon batches. Looking at HERMS coils there seem to be two different sizes. from Amazon they have a "Coldbreak" 50' 1.2 inch 12" diameter HERMS coil which I think it would fit in my pot (my pot is...

    PID SWA 2451 settings

I have an Auber PID SWA 2451. I am not real sure of the settings I need but this is what I think is needed for my setup. I am running a 5500 watt element on 240V 30 amps. I want the timer to read down (example: set at 60 minutes and it starts timing when the temperature reaches the set...

    Speidel fermenter space

ya I have heard that at least you don't need to have a blow off because there is room for expansion in most cases.

    Temperature probe position

I would think the bottom line for the Herms coil and HLT is to make sure the temperature is what I want into the mash tune after all the Herms and hoses and adjust the PID to reflect that.

    Speidel fermenter space

Just bought a 7.9 gallons Speidel fermenter, I do 5.5 gallons in my normal fermenter. That leaves 2.4 gallons of dead space above the wort in the Speidel. Is that too much?

    element position

I put the element into the pot at 1 inch from the bottom. I did get a Camco element but realized It didn't work for me. I bought one from brew hardware. More expensive but a better product. ...https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/element5500_ripple_tc.htm

    Temperature probe position

yep... decided on HLT will have probe inline with the ball valve and boil pot in the side of the pot.

    Temperature probe position

a little more information: HLT will (not yet) have a herms coil so the hot water will recirculate around the HERMS coil from a tube on top pulled up from the ball valve (with a pump). this should keep the water temperature close to the same top and bottom. The HERMS coil will have the wort in...

    Temperature probe position

OK, I have my heating elements for my HLT and Brew Pot installed in my electric brew system. I have seen a few ways to install the Temperature probes. Some are right in the pot others are in a NPT tee fitting inline with the ball valve. I am looking for what you guys, that have built your...

    element position

mounted the weldless 1.5 inch TC bulk head today from brew hardware for my 5500 watt try clamp element , had a hard time finding a 1 5/8 hole saw. Done, mounted, no leaks. the center line of the element is 2 inches from the bottom which gets the element 1.5 inches from the bottom, kind of wish I...

    element position

I figured 1 inch because that is what we used for how far apart Phases in a Electrical panel or Switchboard should be. But it is under water a lot and that would negate that thought. Also the element is removable , with a try clamp, for cleaning. The last one I did was a pain because I had to...

    element position

I am about to install an electric element into my HLT. I will take any advise as to does and don'ts. One thought is to install the bottom of the element an inch from the bottom of the pot. Does this sound like a good judgment?

    spa panel attached where?

Plan is to hang the control panel away from the HLT with the spa panel close to it. the control panel has a breaker on the side to shut off along with the spa panel breaker next to the control panel. Maybe need to get the ruler out to find out how far away from the HLT it will be. Not mounted it...
