Crafty Dan - 13 Guns American IPA

Hi all, so I've been asked to make a clone of "13 Guns" made by Thwaites, under the "crafty Dan" brand. I'ts insanely hoppy, at 5.5% it's a really dangerous beer for the summer. It goes down a treat. Anyway, I've had a look everywhere and I can't seem to find anyone that has tried to clone it...

Out of curiosity, what is your ratio of batches to years brewing?

brewed occasionally in uni, but after a five year break I'm back into brewing in a big way. My first brew since being back into it was on halloween and I've done two more since then so that would work out at around 24, but that's a little misleading. I imagine I'll probably average 1 every...

    Cucumber Ale. Mosaic?

hmmm nice. This is definitely something for me to think about. I think I might have to test a small batch because I'm just so intrigued at how it would taste. I love how refreshing cucumbers are so to somehow get that to work in a beer would be great!

New-school English hops in IPA recipe

Nice! yeah that sounds good, I think I'll try something like that in the new year with mosaic and cascade as a whirlpool addition and then maybe dry hopped as well after a week in primary... Seeing as I'm still relatively new to brewing I'm trying to make the majority of my brews SWMBO friendly...

http://www.tinyrebel.co.uk/beers/cask/cereal-killer/ Looks like Mosaic is the main hop. they don't divulge further unfortunately... Has anyone else used mosaic to good effect? http://www.rebelbrewer.com/shop/brewing-ingredients/hops/pellet-hops/mosaic-hops-1oz-pellets

New-school English hops in IPA recipe

Funnily enough, I've just returned from there today! I used to live on the outskirts of Newport but have not moved away to Dursley so I pop back from time to time. We met up with a couple of mates in Urban Tap House today and I tried the "Cereal Killer" - 3.0% ABV, really hoppy, great session...

Hob Goblin - Extract and Steep.

Oh and I also used WLP007 as I believe that is pretty close to the strain that Wychwood use

Hob Goblin - Extract and Steep.

Thanks for this Orfy, I brewed this yesterday. The only changes I made were including goldings and cascade hops for a whirlpool addition as the head brewer Jeff Drew mentioned in the CYBI podcast. I bought enough ingredients to try this first and then do the CYBI all grain recipe and I must say...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2015?

25,425 + 5 Wheat Beer + 5 Newporter ("black and ambers" is the nickname of the rugby club in Newport where I'm from and I used largely amber and dark (black) malt extract in this porter so I thought the name was fitting) = 25,435

Can You Brew It recipe for Wychwood Hobgoblin

Brilliant, I somehow skipped over that! In that case I'll give WLP007 a go seeing as that is a little easier to get in the UK and should essentially be the same thing as wy1098 I think I'm ready to give the extract + steep recipe a go for this now, although I'll probably have to wait until the...

Can You Brew It recipe for Wychwood Hobgoblin

My memory was correct: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/brakspear-triple-iii/173826/ There we go! Plain as day... bottle conditioned. This is a wonderful beer by the way for anyone that hasn't tried it, it's just a shame that the ABV means you can't drink it all night! Has anyone harvested the...

Can You Brew It recipe for Wychwood Hobgoblin

Here's the extract link: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20228 Also, something in the back of my mind appeared this morning... I'm almost certain the Wychwood tour guide mentioned a beer that they bottle condition. It has been a good 5 years or so since that tour and for all I...

Can You Brew It recipe for Wychwood Hobgoblin

Sounds good. Shortly after posting that I searched for one and found Orfys extract recipe. I'm costed the ingredients last night and it works out ok so I'll give it a go in a few weeks. As for the sweetness I'm not too sure, I guess the water could play a big part in the way the tastes are...

To Secondary or Not? John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff Weigh In

True I think the whole buffet analogy was just a way to potentially rationalise the idea posed by BrewKnurd It would be interesting to speak to a microbiologist to see if they can shed any light on why the secondary clears faster. If there is a particular reason that we don't know about that...

To Secondary or Not? John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff Weigh In

yeah I agree it doesn't really make sense but you never quite know with living organisms, after all if they all behaved absolutely identically they would all flocculate at the same time leaving no yeast in suspension. I'm fascinated by this and with very little knowledge on the subject I'm...

Can You Brew It recipe for Wychwood Hobgoblin

I live in the UK and have thought about culturing some from one of the local pubs when they have it on draught. I wish I had thought about it sooner as my mate picked up one of the 5L mini kegs recently but we drained that in no time! Hobgoblin has been my favourite beer without question for...
