    Mason jars for bottling?

My first knee-jerk reaction to OP's question was, "No way, those things are not pressure rated". But after reading on and thinking it through a bit more, I realize this does need to be explored. Personally, I used quart mason jars for storing items vacuum sealed. I usually take them down to...

How long do you drain your sac

I use the double bucket method. I agree that gravity method is the best; no extra work or equipment to clean. However, for my process, if I wanted to go the pulley route, I would have to spend money on a tripod and pulley. I already had the buckets. Both methods achieve the goal, it just...

    No Chill BIAB

I do a BIAB [No | Slow Chill] FIAK process. This means at flame out, I seal up my kettle to become my fermenter. I now use a HEPA air filter in rubber stopper on kettle lid that will eventually hold the airlock until the temp is pitchable. Usually, I cool in kitchen sink which takes about 4...

    BIABNCFIK

I wanted to follow up on the post regarding the Chapman uni-vessel fun4stuff point me at, in case there is anyone else wanting to know about this product. To give quick background, I wanted to try BIABFIAK process with a non-ported uni-vessel. Why? because I have been worried about a problem...

Reflectix - how to you attach it to your kettle?

I use a single layer of reflectix during mash only to hold consistent temp. I have slits cut out for handles. Wraps around kettles once and overlaps just a bit(about 8 inches). Then I use an old inline skate shoestring around the circumference tied to hold in place. Takes all of 30 secs to...

    BIABNCFIK

@fun4stuff I had not seen these before so thanks for the link. I have to tell you that I am intrigued. Can you speak from experience on the Univessel? My only concern is how the vessel would hold up to propane because I can tell the quality of the SS is not that good.

    BIABNCFIK

I got back into brewing last year after a 25 year break. I didn't want to just go out and purchase a bunch of equipment; also my wife would get pissed if I did. After doing much research and connecting the dots, I went with a BIAB, No Chill, Ferment in Kettle (FIK) approach; a.k.a...

    DIY Stainless Steel Fermenters

I still have not gotten around to successfully creating a gasket using pourable silicone. All my attempts so far using silicone caulk have ended in disaster. Im not done trying though. In the mean time, I have still been using the gastket I made using silicone tubing where two ends are joined...

    DIY Stainless Steel Fermenters

The pot came with a false bottom. I think that is what your referring to. It is removable. If you look at the pics, one shows the false bottom leaning up against the pot.

    DIY Stainless Steel Fermenters

I have not actually done this yet, but from what I gather on youtube is you mix with Naptha and it becomes pourable. FYI, I have tasted the first batch and find it comparable to the taste when I did boil in pot/ferment in glass. I call my new process, NoCBiabFik (No-Chill, BIAB, Ferment in Kettle)

    DIY Stainless Steel Fermenters

I just wanted to add to the growing list of people building these All-in-one brew pot and fermenters. I built one using a 24qt(6gal) GasOne SS pot from amazon. I was very impressed with the quality of this pot and recommend it over the Bayou. I created the seal following @thepicklebrewer...
