    color change after bottling

Nope, sunlight is not an issue. Also, my basement temps are pretty steady and really only shift a degree or two on unusual weather phenomenon during the winter. I wish I could remember if I conditioned these at 72° in my ferm chamber for a week or so, but I don't see anything in my notes. I...

    color change after bottling

I had the same issue with a batch of White IPA I dry hopped with a large dose of Galaxy hops. The yeast used was WLP585 Saison III and was bottled within a month of brewing. I bottled 12 bottles of the White IPA plain. The rest of the batch was put into champagne bottles with Brett B. The clean...

Dark gray layer on top of yeast sample

Ah, I decanted, swirled and pitched it into my starter wort. Seems fine. I briefly considered siphoning it off, but I just went for it. I know my sanitation is solid and it did not smell unusual. So, yeah. Brew day is tomorrow morning, I guess I will see the outcome in about 6 weeks.

Dark gray layer on top of yeast sample

I am planning on making a starter tonight from this sample of WLP585 I collected from a starter in January. I have done this plenty of times before (grow extra yeast in my starters for later use) with other strains, but I have never experienced this dark layer on top of the yeast before. It does...

My holiday beer that I am giving away this year. I chose the name and drew the illustration not knowing Southern Tier had a holiday beer of the same name. I also included my holiday beer from last year for comparison.

$100 Austin Homebrew Supply Gift Certificate

Austin Homebrew is the only reason I would consider relocating my family to Austin. Not really, but it is definitely a pro if I would relocate. I <3 AHBS. @Forrest: Do you have bumper stickers that say this? @Walker: Sorry for hijacking.

    chocolate cherry stout

I do not have experience with WLP550, but I did recently brew this recipe. I cheaped out and used some harvested WLP001 (supposed to use WLP002). The attenuation got too low, I hit 1.014. I wanted to be around 1.020, so I had to add lactose at bottling to help with increasing body. I think...

    Homebrewtalk Carboy Cleaner Giveaway

I am a homebrewer and part-time duelist. Not only would these dual blue shammies clean my carboys super efficiently, they would also allow me to double-slap the challengers I duel against. I would be bad ass if I could say, "Sir, I say sir, you have been double-slapped...repeatedly."

    Saison BBD Saison Furtif

Just bottled this. Hit 1.002. Started at 1.061. I think the crush from Northern Brewer hurt my efficiency. Drank the FG sample and it tastes amazing. Can't wait until it is carbed. Doing another Saison from Brewing Classic Styles (added ginger, coriander, orange zest) with the slurry from...

    Saison BBD Saison Furtif

Is a starter necessary for this recipe and/or 3711 yeast? Thanks.

Could someone suggest a grain substitute for Wheat Malt, Belgian? Would White Wheat work? Thanks.
