    Yeast cake queestion

Update: after all of your input we opted to use a clean carboy & used about 1/4 of the cake. We saved the rest of the cake for future batches (reds are always on tap in our place so we produce alot). I figured after I dumped the bulk of it out anyway what am I really saving, the risk of...

    Yeast cake queestion

So this weekend I am going to keg a batch of Red ale and brew another. I plan on reusing the yeast cake. Historically I've removed the cake, washed it and poured it in the wort after I racked it. I'm making ultamately the same batch, assuming that the carboy is still sanitary and clean from...

    Interesting PM...

I think he did a good job of pointing it out, in a non threatening way, no ill will wanted from either party, I' change the name of my home brewery if I recieved a letter like that, its no big deal and gives me something to think about when I'm having a beer.

    pale vs. carboy

I use both interchangeably, However I do try to do primary in bucket and secondary in glass as its easier to clean and save the yeast cake. I also have a dedicated bucket for my hard lemonade just incase a sour taste ever permiates the plastic (at which I should thow it away anyway). One...

    Extra Hard Lemonade

My second went 12 weeks, that was because we added the second yeast. The rest we have waited 6 weeks to keg. It does get better with age the current batch has been in keg and fridge for about a month and tastes MUCH better then when we first kegged it.

    Extra Hard Lemonade

I'm on my 4th variation of this, however I have dropped to a can off of the origonal recipe because it was a little syrupie and I only use 8# cane. I've also tried adding an extra yeast packet which jumped it from about 6-7% ABV to 11% ABV. SWMBO was TANKED. We now refer to it as "Momma's...
