    Broke my first carboy

Yikes! Thank god you're ok, especially with how violently it exploded. I've heard of people getting seriously injured. That being said..... Dude. You should have known better. Glad your're ok, but dude. Seriously.

Why does my homebrew make me fart so much?

I must have a stomach of steel. I have never had (or noticed) this problem. I had even drank about a gallon of green beer due to overcarbing and nothin'. I have been diagnosed with hyper-acidity, could it be that my stomach acids are so harsh that I am unaffected. That can't be it can it?

    What's in your stock?

Now that is a sweet deal. I get a 25% discount on grain (comes out to 'bout 1.00/#) if I pay 50 bucks ahead of time but a bulk buy would be nice. Edit: I just realized that's kinda what I'm doing. Sorry people I'm dumb.

3 gallons Just hit the ceiling....

First time I brewedi made the same mistake. Used a 5 gal carboy and a blowoff tube with a 1/4 ID. Came home from work and it had popped the blow off across the closet and put a nice beer spot on the ceiling. When I inspected the tube, sure enough it had been clogged by hops. Now I primary in...

    more plumbing questions

Well if I'm reading it right... You don't want to use flare fittings on NPT. I work in plumbing and there should be a adapter to go from one to the other (I have them in stock in my shop). You may have to go to an actual plumbing parts shop.

Should I put a thermometer in my Cooler MLT?

Just finishing my 5 gal cooler MLT. I went all out and built a copper manifold and rotating sparge arm (full pics, specs, and DIY info to come) but I was wondering, should/could I drill a hole and install a thermometer. I think it would be nice to be ale to check temp w/out opening the lid...

    Help me graduate to AG.

Well I put it together and got about 80% eff. And had no big problems except my vorlauf (spelling?) never cleared as much as I hoped. I think I had too much water and wasn't getting the grain bed to settle. But hey I did it! I am building a copper manifold at work during down time and hopefully...

    Help me graduate to AG.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think I will still stick with the 5 gal MLT just to get a feel for it and when I upgrade I'll give it to a friend or put it on craigslist etc. Mainly because I don't know when I'll get the rest of the gear together for 10galbatches and I am moving to Portland...

    Help me graduate to AG.

My plan is that eventually I'll step up to a 10 gal MLT and use the 5 gal for a HLT. This way I can get a feel for it with the 5 and still get use out of it after the upgrade. Good idea, Bad idea?

    Help me graduate to AG.

I am taking the plung after reading as much as I can about the process. I am starting small with 1/2 batches until I get my keggle and burner so what I have so far is: 5 gal brew pot 2 gal pot for HLT 5 gall Igloo cooler (buying today) All items I need to convert to MLT Sparge Jug 1/2 gal...

Brew on back deck, ferment in basement... how to move wort?

Look into "pex" pipe. Rated for hot water and you can use "shark bite" caps to keep the line closed and filled with star san.

    Yeast: fermentation and bottling...

You can also "cold crash". I have a double belgian wit that has a ton of trub and top cropping yeast that I plan to cold crash. Cold temps will often make yeast settle out more than they normally would as well as general "stuff". You will still have enough yeast to carb but a lot lessthan...

    Free 50 gallon H2O...MLT?

I believe the glass lining is a thin layer fuzed to the steel. I am fairly certain it is more of a pyrex type material as it would have to withstand years of heating and cooling. I am doing the research now to be sure and also trying to find out if I can get a false bottom to fit in it well.
