1 Pack of US-05 split for 2 5.5 gal batches

You made a skeptic into a believer. Good job man!

I think my yeast died in transit

12 hours later... I now see big bubbles in my blow off container. Man, yeasts are quite resilient.

I think my yeast died in transit

I live in Florida... my cold pack turned into a freakin heat pack. Yes, I pulled it out and it was steaming hot... the cold pack became a heat pack... even after sitting in the shade. I put it in the fridge. Later I put it out and let it come back to room temp... then since bottling took so...

1 Pack of US-05 split for 2 5.5 gal batches

Well 2 weeks and 3 days later the beers were sitting at FG of 1.015... just as I was expecting. We shalk see if everything is okay... but so far 2 5 gallon brews on 1 pack of US05 worked just fine fermenting wise.

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

I do think the evaluation of the beer is the most inacurrate part of determining beer brewing results from most people. I always see canned responses that are merely a regurgitation of the run of the mill hop or yeast definitions that prevalently repeat themselves across the board. It is nice...

Hey that is a great excerpt about the Sierra Nevada taste specialist.

Valeir Divers Beer Recipe (can not find after extensive search)

I love me some Duvel. So I found a good little nugget: "A few different strains ferment out excellent tripels. First, Wyeast 3787 (Trappist High Gravity) and White Labs WLP530 (Abbey Ale), both reputedly from Westmalle, are excellent choices. Both yeasts produce a predominant ester character...

Valeir Divers Beer Recipe (can not find after extensive search)

Okay. If one had to guess... based on past taste taste experiences... what type of recipe might get one close to a clone?

Thank you! This is the kind of feedback I am looking for.

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

Great. Then I should taste the differences just by the yeast alone. It will be an interesting taste off. I just need to freshen up on proper taste and response techniques. Maybe I should get with my local brewing chapter and volunteer a mini taste test event to help describe the...

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

Dumb question. .. what will cold crashing achieve for fermentation? I always thought that that was for beer clarity.

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

Thank you for the advice. I will try to keep the same process for each, while also taking OG and FG readings. I have heard of the stalling which requires the temp to be adjusted over time to reach FG. Luckily I have a temp controlled fridge. I also learned through reading that I will def...

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

    In the grand scheme of things, it's still gonna work out in my favor. 2 oz Saaz @ 1.50------------= $3 Yeast (dry pack)-------------= $1.99 10 lbs Pilsen -----------------= $18.18 (59.99 for 33 lbs LME) ------ $23.17 or ~ $5.35 a twelve pack. 2 oz Saaz @ 1.50--------= $3 1388...

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

The good news is, I end up with 15+ gallons of Belgium Strongs... I don't see much of a drawback. I love this style of beer anyway. From this baseline, I will start adjusting the hops and maybe a slight amount of specialty grains for different tastes. Funny thing is, I bought 33lbs of...

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

at Northern Brewer the cost runs like this: Safbrew T-58 Ale Yeast $1.99 Safbrew S-33 $1.99 Wyeast 1388 Belgian Strong Ale $6.50 I am wondering if the first 2 will taste close enough so i won't need to spend the extra money in the future...

Do Belgian Yeasts vary much? Worth the extra cost?

So today I picked up my ingredients to make my Belgian Ale. I was meaning to get the Wyeast 1388 Belgian Strong Ale, but as I was ordering i drew a blank. I ended up getting Safbrew S-33... was told it would work. Later I read about it and realized that it is not like Wyeast 1388. So, my...
