Yakima Valley Hops North West Hop Farms Cheers!

Dry yeast sat on hops for 12 hours after pitching...

The hops are floating on the emitted CO2. I'd expect them to stay up top pretty much the whole way... Cheers!

    Random Drunken Thoughts Thread

Kinda, I guess. This skin-as-radiator thing used to be confined to mini & dorm fridges (and chest freezers, of course) but it's being used on full-size machines now as well... Cheers!

    Glass jars for freezing pellets?

I think the good intention falls apart at that point. You're not going to be fast enough to not admit plenty of air in the jar. I buy from vendors that use resealable metalized mylar packaging, one that does evacuation, the other does nitro flushing. I put their bags in freezer bags and keep...

    Random Drunken Thoughts Thread

An actual brewing related rambling/PSA One of my three relic Craig's List fridges had been acting a bit wonky lately. It's the oldest of the three top-freezer units in my humble brew space that range between 17 and 22 cf, and has been Chamber 1 for over a decade now. As I'm just about to get...

    Help With My Sick Keezer

No big whoop, I have some 2" wide x 24" long velcro straps to pin the probe to the keg under a 1" thick pad of closed cell foam. And I link pairs of the straps to do the same with my 6.5 gallon carboys. fwiw, I once did a comparo between thermowelled sensors and strapped and insulated sensors...

    Brewing room ideas

A salmon fly for sure, that tie was my take on a simplified "Silver Doctor" wet fly pattern which originated in Scotland in the 1800s, featured "married" wings using slips of dyed goose feathers that connect to each other like hook-and-loop material, and was tied by at least two notables of the...

Cooked up a pair of second stage 1388 starters for back-to-back 10 gallon hazy batches... Cheers!

Dry yeast sat on hops for 12 hours after pitching...

I'm not surprised, this is the first time I've read of such a situation....anywhere! 😁 As you did eventually rescue the stranded wee beasties I'm inclined to believe everything will work out in the end... Cheers!

help there's a weird sediment in my keg beer

I literally waited to read ^that^ before sending this :) Do you happen to have an acid neutralizer as part of your domestic water supply? We do, and ice cubes made in our fridge's ice maker will precipitate out calcium carbonate when they melt - even though there is an in-line filter/carbon...

help there's a weird sediment in my keg beer

Whatever it is it's almost certainly coming from the keg as the lines aren't going to hold hardly anything. To give us a hint what's going on I suggest you pour some into a straight sided unbranded glass with some back-lighting and post a picture of it for us to peruse... Cheers!

    Help With My Sick Keezer

My BrewPi system controls the keezer compressor based on a tightly-coupled/well-insulated probe strapped to the side of a 5 gallon keg filled with water (a 14.3cf keezer volume allows me that luxury to avoid having to move that sensor from keg to keg as they empty). The plots show the beer...

What came in the mail for you today?

The pound I bought from yvh in 2024 was pretty "normal" wrt AA% and character. But Amarillo isn't going to win a 1:1 battle with the likes of Simcoe - or Citra or Mosaic, among other bold character hops... Cheers!
