    Hops overkill?

Thanks everyone. I just got done brewing. :) I steeped the grains for a full-hr as suggested. I also used my turkey fryer burner for the first time. It's nice to be able to get a full rolling boil in <15 min. It took me a few minutes to find the right temp so it didn't boil over. I do think I...

    Hops overkill?

I love hoppy beers, which is the reason I wanted to dry hop this batch. I'm using whole hops, but I have no clue what their actual alpha acid percentages are. Hmm.. I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks. It's going to be interesting to compare the two batches.

    Stuck Fermentation

Not to whore the thread, but I think I'm in the same boat. I started an Oktoberfest on 8-21 (yeah, yeah, I know, march). It had an OG of 1.040. I racked it to a secondary on 8-31 and it had a reading of 1.022. I've got it in a plastic tub with water/ice, keeping it at ~60-65 degrees. I'm...

    Japanese brewer toasts 'taste-changing' beer

Interesting. So are they just bottling the beer prematurely? TOKYO (AFP) - Japan's top brewer Asahi Breweries said it had developed a beer that changes taste over time as the fermentation process continues after it is bottled. The Asahi Super Yeast Draft changes its aroma and flavor...

    Favorite Oktoberfest Beer?

Spaten is my favorite Oktoberfest bier. Which, the local Costco has for 19.99 a case. :) Edit: Sam Adams makes a good oktoberfest as well.

German brewer creates beer with 25.4% alcohol content

I found this on www.fark.com BERLIN (Reuters) - A German brewer has concocted what he says is the world's strongest beer, a potent drink with an alcohol content of 25.4 percent that is served in a shot glass. "Everyone who has tried it is enthusiastic. It tastes like a quirky mixture of...

    Temperature and Belgian Tripel

I actually just got my turkey fryer back from my dad's house finally, so I'll use the burner next time, no lid. :) I think I'll miss my house smelling liek a brewery though... :sniff: Should I open a can of worms and ask if I should use the aluminum pot to brew? Or jsut stick to my 16qt...

Hmm... I've done all 3 of mine with the lid on. Should I not use a lid at all from now on?

    Thank You all

I've only brewed 3 batches so far, but I've certainly learned quite a bit here. Thanks. :) *joins group hug*

    Rubbermaid Tub - It's a Good Thing

I normally keep the water level lower until I rack to the secondary, then fill it 3/4 the way up. I have found that using a weizen glass instead of a water jug will allow me to fill teh tub about 1/2 way and still use the blow-off tube. :D

    Rubbermaid Tub - It's a Good Thing

Cheap and effective. My kind of thing. I'm glad I upgraded to the glass blow-off tube though. Seems sooo much easier to clean than a plastic one would. I even sacrificed my mechanic's creeper to make the tub easier to roll around if need be. :p Of course, I haven't had to move it...

    Rubbermaid Tub - It's a Good Thing

Living in steamy Florida, that's the only way I can keep my beer at a reasonable temp. I swap out a frozen 1g bottle of water 2x a day, and I'm able to keep it at 58-60 pretty easily.

    Kegerator

I thinking about picking up a deep freezer from Costco and using an external thermostat to turn it into a lagering fridge. I think it's $179 in-store Link It's pretty deep, so it might hold a few corny kegs too. I think it would be easy to convert into a kegerator as well.
