Can I get away with a 6 Gallon Primary?

A 6 gallon carboy is fine for a primary. You have plenty of headspace for a blow off. For mine, I use a regular bung, and use the base to a 3 piece airlock, and slid a hose over it, and the other end inside a container of water, water/sanitizer etc... Other guys on here have been able to pick up...

    sanitizing question

Exactly. It does leave a film on surfaces, which helps protect items you have sanitized long after they have dried. I love it and have not had any issues with it. If you are really worried about the foam, use Sani Clean which is basically the same thing, but without the foam.

Is One Step by Logic a cleaner or sanitizer

I love those words..., such an oxymoron. Anyway, believe what you want, thats all I have to say, as the effectiveness of One Step as actual sanitzer has been in question for many years. Plus, the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide is compromised greatly by organic materials. Also, I wouldnt...

I took a sixer of homebrews to a poker game Saturday night...

I absolutely love the faces of people when you try to give them a homebrew. Kind like that face little kids make when you try to feed them lima beans. They they try it and go friggin nuts over it. Always a fun thing to watch.

    Bucket or Carboy?

Glass is easier to clean, and leaves no odors or stains. They are indeed heavy, and you must use great care when using them, but to me a little bit more care is worth it. This is personal preference, like AleHole stated. I use 6.5 gallon glass carboys for my primarys, and 5 gallons for...

Denny's Rye IPA, Anybody ever brew this?

Yes, Denny's Rye has become legend. This is one good tasting brew for sure. Simple and straight forward, and tasty. For anyone who wants to try a rye recipe, and really enjoy it, try it. A couple things to note, which Denny, in my opinion, was right on when he created it. Columbus and rye go...

    Yet another Rye beer thread

Looking good, but being a Rye-head, I would have to say up your malted rye to at least 2 to 2.5 lbs, and keep the 1.5 flakes rye. Mmmmm Columbus hops and rye, they go hand in hand. Flaked rye will give you a spicy rye flavor, where malted rye give you a nice warm rye flavor. The two...

    Yeast Cakes

Yup, your yeast cake is whats left over in your primary after you transfer your batch to the secondary. You can either rack another batch of beer over it, or you can collect it, and wash it to save it.

Is One Step by Logic a cleaner or sanitizer

Some companies try to say it is a sanitizer, but in reality it is only a cleaner. Percarbonates do not act as a germicide and do not kill bacteria. You need Iodophor, Star San and the likes to kill bacteria. This is confusing to so may people because of advertising.

    Bottles

Okay...why the heck is it that most breweries bottle their beers in 12oz bottle, when an actual pint is 16oz? All my barware is 16oz or larger, so why the heck wont these brewers pony up another 4oz and sell larger bottles? I mean pints are perfect sizes, so what the heck? Yeah, I know, we...
