    Fine before bulk aging?

the question isn't whether to fine after cold crashing for a month. the question seems to be that once fined, can it sit for a month in cold? The answer surely should be yes, as the lees from fining will not have much affect on the beer at that temp. I don't know that'd I'd intentionally fine...

Setting up my new co2 bottle in the kegerator

you might try looking at a scuba tank mounting bracket for a fishing boat. that looks to be about the same girth. amazon has got some options, but a dive shop would as well.

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

I'm on my 8th biab with this thing and other than taking a bit longer than i'd love to heat the water, I'm happy with it for it's simplicity. I wrapped a patio cushion around it during the mash and only had the heater come on once after dropping from 158 to 152. the dough in doesn't lose as much...

    Show us your Kegerator

I like the inward curve of the taps, I haven't seen that done before. Unique and very cool.

    First BIAB question

yes post mash and pre boil would be the same, but I've never known to measure gravity before the wort is done with the boil and cooled. Biab is great for me, and I get close to the same numbers. Now I'm focused on lowering fermentation temps to get a better yeast profile.

Comparison of mash tun insulation methods

Well I was too lazy to get a sleeping bag out, but wrapping it with a cushion from our patio furniture seems to be helping. 45 min into mash and have had heater come on once.

Thank you for running these. I may or may not choose to do anything, but with this data, at least I know exactly what I'm missing. Well done!

    Kegging Question

the 40 was just to get the carbonation to 2.4 or 2.5 units of co2 quickly, not to actually get to 40, so as long as you keep it at the psi on the chart that matches your temperature, you're golden. If you like to serve at 5 psi but likely need 10-12 psi for maintaining carbonation, double the...

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

if the bag is in the basket, and sitting above the main vessel, why would you need to reopen it for sparging? I'd just leave it drawn closed to hold the grains and pour the water over the bag. The exact same size bag you made me would work just as well with the basket or without. and since the...

    First BIAB question

How do you get a musician off your porch? Pay for the pizza. rofl. took me a second, but then roflmao. what ya need for biab is to figure out how to get than collander to stay supported over the top of the kettle to hold the grain bag while it drains after the mash. sounds like that one...

First Batch ....yeah problems, is it a fail?

looks like it'll be good and strong beer to me! how long from your first og to your second? looks like you've already started fermenting, and that's likely the reason for the drop in og. If that's a 6 gallon carboy (i hope) it looks like you've only got it filled to about 4 gallons. If the...

forgot/didn't know to crush coriander before adding!

I've been playing with corriander and have yet to get an overly strong flavor from it in the beer, maybe i'm too light on the oz. but i think the boil mellows the spice out. fwiw- found out that corriander is just cilantro seeds. cilantro grows quick like a weed in my garden, and i can harvest...

The Lazyman Brew - Will it work?

ps. have you thought of making a cider. now that can be a lazyman's brew.

The Lazyman Brew - Will it work?

I think it would be similar to taking the non-alcoholic drinks and throwing in a shot of alcohol. alcohol content- yes drinkable- not really

    Proofing Dry Yeast

my experience is to just go ahead and direct pitch the yeast into a cooled wort. Danstar even recommends this. it eliminates the real possibility of infection during rehydration. dehydrated yeast is really designed for it. just my experience though. I pitched a nottingham on friday night at 7pm...

My NE IPA look like crap!

if you think it's a loss, forget the style and throw some gelatin on it. that'll clear it up a bit.
