    Carbon monoxide hazards are real

A buddy of mine and I were talking and he was saying how he'd been feeling low and confused by everything and generally out of sorts, and I, supping on my nth pint was like "yea man that's just like a symptom of the modern world n stuff dude" Turns out it was a symptom of a co leak in his...

    Female in distress !!!!

ill probably get into trouble for saying this but i dont bother much with gravity readings these days. its usefull when youre starting out to reassure you that you've done everything right though. once it clears up its done is my rule. i assume you cant chill it, so i would leave it alone for...

    Homemade PBW Recipe

o2 sounds fresh wholesome and clean. what it actually does is another question but if yo see bubbles bubbling you assume something is working... much better than just boring soaking ... always struck me as a gimmick largely too. anyway im just gonna mix up some shizz and see what it does...

    Homemade PBW Recipe

im sure you covered it earlier, but was your understanding that the percarbonate becomes sodium carbonate or contains sodium carbonate to some degree? hence using 65 percent percarbonate?

    Homemade PBW Recipe

hi. in follow up for us uk people that dont get the branded stuff ive found good price for sodium percarbonate and metasilicate (which i understand is not tsp and is preferable?) but the only version of the metasilicate is the pentahydrate version, im guessing that as its all going into a...

Suspected Infection, nasty dark brown yeast cake

you have a marbleobacter infection. commonly found to affect children the most severely. seriously though id guess its just some stuff settling out and not to be too alarmed although i know just about nothing about mead. there is the chance of ghosts however, so perhaps call your local priest...

How big of a difference in gravity would wort from the top have compared to the bottom?

not after boil and aeration no. it is coming out of the mash, but wouldnt expect any difference after boiling etc

Once again, a higher gravity beer won't force carbonate!

Well I still think you have ghosts but here's what some so called scientists have to say.. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/254514397_Solubility_of_carbon_dioxide_in_ternary_and_quaternary_mixtures_of_water_CO2_malic_acid_and_glucose_Experimental_results_and_phase_equilibrium_modeling...

    Dark Beer Problems..

I suppose that makes sense given the hardness of dark beer area water... I tend to cold steep a lot of the dark grains to avoid the harshness of the grain, but that would run counter to the idea of specifically high pH for dark malt flavour. Seems to work ok for me though but it's mainly from...

    Dark Beer Problems..

Why do you want a 5.5 ph? Genuinely curious to learn, not being sark..

Once again, a higher gravity beer won't force carbonate!

Sounds like you have ghosts. Ring a reputable priest and have them do the candle and whatnot thing. Will carbonate fine thereafter. I had the same thing happen on a triple IPA. Called in father mcgonegal and problem solved. Priests can be expensive, but worthwhile IMHO, and at the same time I...

    ******* water question

I only use water that has been treated properly... A series of mystical rites and sacrifices are performed by by a trained voodoo priest and a TV medium whilst I dance naked and frantically around. I'm not sure it's the best method but it's a protected that seems to work for me.

    Solitary brewer ?

I'm a solitary long in the tooth maverick type brewer and only brewed alone until I was given a new rookie partner that is a young zany ethnically diverse madcap character. Despite early tensions and setbacks in the end we both grow as characters and learn to appreciate our differences solving...
