    Airlock is bulging and overflowing

Probably won't need the blow off since there is still 6" of head space. But... If the krausen builds up to the lid it'll clog the air lock, then blow the lock or lid off spewing your beer everywhere. Tubing is cheap, leftover water jugs are free.

    ESB got the funk

There are lots of people on here who can help you out, but you might need to help them by giving more details; full recipe, timing of everything added and aged, specific gravity, all the little details seem to help the gurus pinpoint the problem(s). I can say that your beer is still young, and...

    Hello from PA

I'm right in the borough, on broad street. I've wanted to get to the meets at Becker's for a while now, but I have hockey games every tuesday night. Thanks though. Yeah, I get all my stuff from Ed @ Qmart. Also, hello and welcome Steve!

    conan yeast, heady topper

A couple weeks ago I was able to get my hands on two cans of the great Heady Topper. It was so good I had to save some of it to attempt to cultivate some yeast and try to reproduce a similar flavor (I've read it has a lot to do with this beer's taste. Anyone have any luck with this, any good...

    containers for fermenting

I can offer my opinion here... First off, a 5 gallon container is too small for any larger than around a 3 gal batch. Also, check the recycling code. I imagine it is food grade, but you can check that it says HDPE 1 or HDPE 2 to make sure the plastic is okay to reuse for brewing. I hope this helps.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer None More Black Vanilla Stout

I wouldn't be overly concerned with sanitation of the extract since you're making it by soaking the vanilla beans in alcohol. Just sanitize the jar first if you're worried.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer None More Black Vanilla Stout

Anyone try adding some lactose to this? Seems like it would be good with some added body and sweetness. No?

Which came first, the wort chiller or the turkey fryer?

Perfect. Thanks again, Yooper. You're a wealth of knowledge. I actually do the late addition move because of your recommendation in other threads.

Which came first, the wort chiller or the turkey fryer?

Never mind. You're saying to not worry about partial boil, just do late addition to make up for it. I think. Sorry for the pointless post.

Which came first, the wort chiller or the turkey fryer?

Why does a chiller help with a late extract addition? I'm not saying it doesn't, just an honest question.
