What to do with 2 bags of Nugget Hops

Hey all. I'm new to home brewing so i've stuck to kits thus far. This weekend my Dad was at a market and bought two medium baggies of homegrown, dried nugget hops. Other than being dried out they are still whole hops, not in pellet form. I'm not ready to move onto advanced beer making yet...

Bubbles in my siphon tube - Beer Death!?

Hey all. I transfered my second kit beer to my glass carboy yesterday. And for the second time I noticed small bubbles accumulating in the line as the beer moved from the fermenter to the carboy. These mostly stay in the line, trapped from moving upward by the liquid moving downward. I've read...

Easiest type of beer to brew for your first batch

I brewed an Imperial Pale Ale for my first about a month ago. It was pretty easy. Just like following a recipe. We just did a Brown Ale for our follow up. Don't be afraid, and just pay attention to the times and you'll be fine.

Setting Carboy directly on ground not safe?

I just opened a wood plank store. Maybe this discovery will make me rich. Baby needs diapers!

Priming Sugar - How much to use?

Uh oh. Well, I decided not to risk a flat beer so I used the whole 5oz. But I also didn't get a full five gallons out of the carboy. I started sucking up sediment so I aborted the siphoning. It ended up being about 4.5 gallons. Hopefully this doesn't end with explosions.

Priming Sugar - How much to use?

So I should only use 4oz of the sugar powder and not the whole thing? What happens if you use to much? Will that either explode bottles or cause the beer to be sweet?

Priming Sugar - How much to use?

Hey All. I'm planning on bottling my first brew tonight. It's an Imperial Pale Ale kit and it came with a bag of priming sugar. I'm at work so I can't remember the specifics but I don't remember the recipe calling for a specific measurement other than using the whole bag. I read some posts...

Beer Wars - The Movie. Seen it?

Good points, fellas. I was really turned off by the AB cease and decist to Dogfish about "Punkin Ale" and their "Craft beers" and Organic beers with fake brewery names to make people think it's something small. I guess I was just turned off by the big business attitude of the AB crowd. Guys...

Beer Wars - The Movie. Seen it?

Hey all, last night I watched a documentary from 2009 called Beer Wars. Anyone seen it? It was a pretty interesting look into the industry with a David vs. Goliath spin. Since I'm new to home brewing and craft beer enjoyment in general so I just wanted to see if anyone has seen it and can...

    Temperature control - Secondary?

Thanks for the reply, Warped. I have read so much about the dangers of oxidation that I was afraid to even bump the carboy much less move it down the stairs. I think i'll just leave it be in the closet and see how it goes. Thanks, Houston. Glad to hear that temp works for you.

    Temperature control - Secondary?

Hey all, I just transfered my brew after seven days in the primary to my glass carboy. I'm concerned that the closet I'm keeping it in will be to warm between 63-70 degrees depending on the time of day. Should I leave it put or risk shaking it up trying to get it down into my basement where it...

    How did you find us?

I found this site while browsing an off-topic conversation at perfectmancave.com. I just started my first brew a couple days ago. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this site. I'm strangely thirsty....

    Filtering post boil?

Do you use this technique with the paint strainer bag for a single stage fermentation or do you still go ahead with a second stage?
