    finaly got lager beer right

I love pale lager and they say its the hardest to brew right. ive always had a flaw an aftertaste in my partial extract bottled beers, kind of a cappy, cardboardy taste I would try aging for 6 months but still there, pretty clear it was getting oxenated, but how? It was my bottling...

I'm screwed before I even started....

why dont you use the old cooler ice bottle method, freeze two liter pop bottles filled with water. submerge 5 gal carboy in cooler that is filled quarter full with water, one frozen liter in cooler will take temp down around ten degrees. wrap with blanket. change two liter bottles once every...

When I used to live in Denver some beer distributers/warehouses would sell dented cans, extra lots, real cheap. just look them up in the yellow pages .

Yet another yeast harvesting thread (with pics)... halfway there

I never understood why more people dont use agar slants, it takes so much less space in the fridge! All you do is boil geletin with some water and DME. Get some pyrex test tubes from a hobby shop. tilt tubes with gelatin at 45 degee angle, let dry, presto, agar slants, using flame sterilzed...

Im only drinking a 12 oz bottle a week, for testing purposes, until yeast bite is gone. Started this thread out of boredom, and not intended to be taken seriously.

KC blvds. Bully Porter has yeast bite!

Yes, I did drink the beer the same night I bought it and it had a 10 mile car ride, though I dont think it agaited it that much. Ill give bully stout another chance and let it settle for a few days before drinking it next time. thanks for the info.

    Stamp out homebrew yeast bite!

Yeah, Ive brewed lagers before and expected yeast bite at two weeks. after about five weeks it gets a lot better. I get alittle impatient sometimes, I had to quit brewing for awhile when I was preparing to move out of state, so I dont have a pipe line of batches conditioning. gets frustrating...

KC blvds. Bully Porter has yeast bite!

Im not drinking it too soon, they are selling it too soon. When I buy a beer I expect to be able to drink it that night and any aging that is needed to improve taste will be done on the brewers time, not mine. With all due respect, Getting more equipment, brewing more often and building up...

    Stamp out homebrew yeast bite!

Six months, oh my god!!. I think I can hold out for five weeks. I had a previous lager that tasted pretty good at that time. I'll save a six pack out of the batch and age it for six months to see how it improved.

KC blvds. Bully Porter has yeast bite!

Cracked my first bully and surprise! Tasted like yeast bite homebrew. Then I read the top rocker, " we added a small amount of yeast to beer, just before packaging, to produce sec fermentation in bottle. the yeast encourages further maturation. My beef is that they should "encourage futher...

    Stamp out homebrew yeast bite!

Yeast bite! my achilles heel as it were. Im talking about that yeasty bite you get after drinking a homebrew bottled conditioned beer. Its so frustrating, I taste a sample from my secondary before bottling,( I brew lagers, in sec 4 weeks) It tastes great, just alittle flat. then when I crack a...

Yeah, I certainly got some replies this time, I'd like to respond to some posts. Your probably right I shouldnt have posted in all grain , PE forum for this. It would be great to have a lager forum, I do enjoy stouts and loved brown ale I made, maybe I should go back to doing at least some...

    Keeping lightest color?

The best way is not to boil DME or liquid extract at all, just add at the end of boil time, and let steep for a few minutes. Hops and mash from grain does need to be boiled, but during the manufacturing process to concentrate extract and DME they have already literally had the hell boiled out...

    Lager fermentation schedule

Been doing some digging on various web sites about lager fermentation. I currently age a lager in primary for around three weeks, after two day diacetyl rest at room temp, rack and lager in secondary for four weeks around 40 degrees. After I bottle I will allow two weeks for carbonation at room...

    Aussiehomebrewer, brew in a bag

This is an interesting brewing forum from "down under". I was looking at their all grain pm forum tonight and noticed an article about BIAB. or brew in a bag. Using a large grain bag and avoiding sparging, supposed to be easier, less equipment. it seems to me you still need to do a full 5...
