    Biggest hangover beer

I was in the USAF and stationed in LA back in the '80s and a buddy came back from leave with a case of some local brew with the label 'Treaty' beer (he lived in the U.P of Michigan). Three of us went on a fishing trip that first weekend and took the Treaty with us, along with some MGD. We...

    Giving homebrew lessons

I got started in the hobby back in November, and have only slowly been tweaking my advanced kit (LHBS @ $90) since then, all the while reading about and brewing beyond the initial kit to extracts (ingredients and recipes, etc.) Then I went to a brew day over the weekend and watched/discussed...

    Hi From Houston

how-de-do from Dallas, land of the frozen tundra. Did you get tired of bottling, or just always wanted to keg?

    My God it's cold!

It was 27 this morning in N Dallas. Our office shut down due to the frozen rain/sleet we got last night, so now I am working from home and catching up on the forums. While not personally into licking my brew equipment, doesn't saying or hearing the word 'sparging' make you hehe chuckle, or...

    'The' podcast reference thread

I've just recently learned that there are at least a few folks out there who create pod casts for home brew/craft brew. I was wondering if folks recommend any of the pod cast they have stumbled across: For those of you who are thinking "eh? pod cast. What in the wide wide world of sports is...

    F***ing Cat @#%*&^%*&

Good word of advice Rhoobarb. However, in my case if you saw our garage, you would understand. We NEVER park in it because SWMBO has a revolving door of antiques coming in, antiques going out. "You know that, I can't so much as drink a damn glass of water around a midget or a piece of...

    F***ing Cat @#%*&^%*&

Rule #1 on Brew Day: Before anything is set up/cleaned/sanitized, etc. Cats are confined to the garage (with plenty of catnip. I'f I'm going to RHAHB, they may as well get their freak on with catnip). Cats are a great inspiration for naming batches too.

    Wort chiller 101

Update: I just bought the last piece of plastic tubing I need to complete the IC setup (it's going to look like something from Frankenstein's lab when completed). When it's all said and done, there will be 3 different sized hoses to go from the copper of the IC to the output side of the water...

    All NEWBIES LOOK HERE!!

ROTF - yep, that's what I started doing. And it keeps a steady resupply of required bottles coming in too! I wash and remove labels on maybe 6 bottles a week now, down from what, the 50 or so required in one batch when I first started 2 months ago. But you can't just ask the newbs to WAIT...

Hello from sunny calm Oakland CA

Well met allphoto! You say this is your second go around, and you are probably going to get a wort chiller? What happened the first time? I am new to this hobby, and after 2 batches to my credit, I've come to realize that the addition of a wort chiller is Priority #1 for me. I made one and...

    Wort chiller 101

Actually, I was washing bottles last night (first step for me. Second step is the sanitation /sterilization soak and dish washer cycle), and the tap water, after @ 3 minutes was DAMN COLD! At any rate, I've decided to create a system that will cycle the 'bath' itself, and not rely upon the tap...

    Wort chiller 101

I went to Home Depot today at lunch and grabbed a 20’ length of pre-coiled 3/8” OD refrigeration grade copper (yikes! It was expensive) tubing. Then I plan to go by Petco on the way home as their website lists a Hagen AquaClear water pump that rates @ 400GPM. with a litle Shaping for the...

Help! Need a mini fridge for primary/secondary temp control

ok, Sam's had the GE 7.0 cu. ft. chest freezer in stock, but there was a built in shelf that would prevent storage of 2 carboys. DOH! Good thing I took my tape measure. So I am now back to the starter's block in my search. As of today, still nothing on craigslist.
