    Helical Coil HEX Design

I think you may have missed the point where I stated the HEX would stand vertically. Sorry, I made the diagram showing the HEX horizontal (rotate the diagram 90 degrees counter clockwise). The wort will flow in through the bottom and exit out the top of the outer tube. Water will enter at the...

    Helical Coil HEX Design

True. My concern with wort flowing through the inner tube would be getting it thoroughly clean after chilling. With the wort flowing in the outer tube it can be easily clean and visually inspected. Good point on the laminar flow. Although, it should be possible include some baffles or maybe...

    Helical Coil HEX Design

Good thought! So here are some quick, back of the envelope, calculations of the total surface area of the inner tube (length * surface area of inner tube/meter) I found some numbers (length and inner tube diameter) for a stainless steel CFC and get a inner tube surface area of...

    Helical Coil HEX Design

I wanted to get some feedback on an idea I have for a dual purpose helical coil heat exchanger that can be used for both maintaining mash temps and chilling. The design consists of a 24" long, 3" diameter Tri-clamp spool and 17' long coil made with 1/2" flexible corrugated stainless steel...

    Tri-clamps vs Camlocks

I ended up using both. For bulkhead connections on my kettles I went with TC. I dimpled and soldered a TC ferrule on the kettle and then connect to the valve with a 1/2" TC NPT adapter. Anywhere a hose is connected I use CL fittings. I like having the option of being able to take the bulkhead...

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

I dimpled and soldered these pots with 1.5" tri clamp ferrules. Like you, I was a bit nervous about screwing it up so I first did a test dimple using a $1.69 stainless steel 0-gang wall plate I picked up at Home Depot. I made the dimple tool from a PVC coupler, washers and bolt from HD and a...

White Labs 002 (English Ale) in an IPA?

Check out this California/English blend as well. http://morebeer.com/products/white-labs-worlds-yeast-blend.html. I haven't used it yet but looks like it might be good fit for IPAs. I'm in the middle of a Firestone series using the 002 and re-pitching (Pale 31 -> Union Jack IPA -> Wookey Jack)...

I'm at a loss on rims tube elements

If you have a HD nearby they usually have this one in stock. I'm pretty sure the length in the description is incorrect. If I recall the length of the heating part of the element is ~13" and it's cheaper than Amazon...

    All Stainless Heatstick design

It's only a single 90. The thing in the middle of the 90 is a u-clamp wrapped in tubing so I can just rest the heatstick on the side of the pot.

    All Stainless Heatstick design

That's a 2" TC to 3/4" NPT adapter. I emailed SD to see if I could just get their end cap from the EGK but they only sell it as part of the kit. So, I found the adapter on eBay and plan to drill and tap a small hole to attach the ground wire and a small hole for leak testing. It's a bit...

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

I first washed with liquid soap and hot water and then did a boil with water but found I was getting a grey residue film on the surface of the water. So, I went at it with BKF and after that I had no more problems. Could have just been a issue with the pots I got. Looks like RadicalEd didn't...

    All Stainless Heatstick design

Thanks to the OP for sharing this design! I really got inspired by it and decided to build one. Here's my version using a TC long elbow 90 I found on eBay and the rest of the TC components from StillDragon and a 5500w element. I'm using a stainless U-clamp wrapped in tubing for the hanger.

Does anyone have any info on these pots? JARHILL 96/70 QT Stainless Steel Stock Pots

I got a couple of sets of the 70/96 pots a while ago and have now had the chance to brew a few 5 gallon batches in the 70qt pot. I have not seen any rusting on my pots. I'm in the middle of building out my eHERMS system and will use 2 of the 96qt pots for the HLT and BK and one of the 70qt...

    Weldless Triclover Element?

Great. Looking forward to picking up a couple of the solder-on version kits. How about a solder-on TC bottom drain kit as well? Seems like a perfect solution for flat bottom kettles.
