    Water profile: what really matters?

Ok so we have a fresh thread here with a lot of good info. I know this deviates from the OP, but it is a very valuable general question IMO that will help a lot of people searching google/HBT for answers in the future. If i'm using 100% RO water, and making additions of Sulfate/CaCl in less...

How can I eliminate any chance of chlorine/chloromine.

I don't consistently have this problem, but I feel like sometimes upon transferring from fermentation keg to serving keg I start to detect slight traces of chlorine. I noticed another few threads about this recently and wanted to examine my own process to see if I could identify anything...

    There goes my perfect record

Whats it taste like? If this is your first batch with temp control that changes some things. It will net you a consistent huge improvement across the board but there are other things to consider to make it work as intended. You used the California Lager yeast and while you fermented within the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

You could add a little crystal or caramel. That's what is generally used to give IPAs a sweet malty character. I avoid those in almost all styles personally. But I have friends who absolutely love beers that I don't solely due to the presence of a little of those sweet malts. The hops themselves...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I keep hearing words candy and el dorado in parallel... I need to give el dorado another go. Man, i've been on all these Kolshes and Milds lately but I think its time for more hops!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thanks I will definitely be trying WY1272 and will get back on this thread. WLP001 is my favorite so far but it just didn't seem especially suited to the style. Also regarding the post i saw above about hopping 15 - FO to give a smooth bitterness to balance the juices, spot on. For 5gal I...

What does the el dorado bring to the table? I've had limited experience brewing with it.

    Homebrew and Hangovers

Acetaldehyde is the answer, if your drinking the beer too young your not giving the yeast enough time to convert this. EDIT: hahaha I thought you were basically claiming the reverse of this statement, long week!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

http://www.farmhousebrewingsupply.com/ :onestar::onestar::onestar::onestar::onestar: Currently sold out, try to check in about once a week. I had to wait like 2 months. Would blend with something that offers a just a little pine/resin/grapefruit like cascade, but does great on its own. I...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

X331 Experimental hop NE SMASH Pale Ale. This hop puts out super fruity and dank notes at the same time, its kind of like a mix of simcoe and citra. Lots of tangerine and passion fruit. I noticed that before the 2nd dry hopping it was much more fruit forward so next time i may take it easy on...

Fridge suddenly cant keep temps down, is it dying?

The freezer is venting air, but it is no longer cold air... the fan in the back is running seemingly normal. I am going to check for ice but that is doubtful because the problem has been apparent for 2-3 days and i haven't seen any ice/moisture/leakage from the freezer into the fridge etc.

Fridge suddenly cant keep temps down, is it dying?

Yes the fridge sounds as if its running as normal. I have turned it off and will check things out, there doesn't seem to be any freezing/ice on the coils as i've experience that before, and freezer seems to run as normal when the probe allows it to be switched on. Also ps i do run a 10min delay.

First Time Brewer -- Some Dumb Questions

Safale05 is awesome. Great versatile strain used as house strain for many commercial breweries due to its clean profile, flexibility, and its a workhorse. I always keep mine at 62-65 for the first 2-3 days, then its fine to let temps rise, so I would look into the swamp cooler just for a couple...

Fridge suddenly cant keep temps down, is it dying?

Thanks for the responses yall. I cant remember exactly when the fridge was turned on but I doubt it was soon after it was moved. I do remember it was definitely knocked about and tilted quite a bit... wasn't very happy about that since I paid to have it moved and thought the movers would be a...

Fridge suddenly cant keep temps down, is it dying?

Hey all! It recently got fairly hot in western NC and my temp chamber has been acting very strange. I have a fridge hooked up to an inkbird 308 and it has worked flawlessly until now (even through a summer on the OBX in a garage). Now I have the fridge inside and the fridge hasn't been able to...

    Pouring 100% foam from tap

I'd be interested to hear what happens when you attach a 5' picnic faucet. Its what I always use with no issue. Could be a good way of compartmentalizing the problem area. PS if you find that you overcarbed your beer, the best way decarb IMO is to put it on 5-7# pressure and attach gas...

I think I need some kegs.

Yep. I first of all take a gas disconnect attached to some tubing for a blowoff tube and stick it in a growler of sani or something. Then post primary i hook up gas, take a picnic faucet to blowoff the initial yeast built up around diptube, then i take a sanitized liquid to liquid disconnect and...
