    Fermentation Location Help

The temp sounds fine to me as well. If you are still worried about it I picked up a seed starter kit for my garden recently and it had a warming mat for the seeds. I find that when you wrap it around your keg with a towel it brings up the temp about 6-7 degrees F. Looks like this though I got...

3 weeks in primary - unexpectedly cloudy

You could wait as mentioned above. Or you could try 1/2 a pack of the unflavored gelatin(i think its 1/2 pack?).

    Starters

Hey Bob The left over booster that you used from the Mr Beer kit was what made the difference in the yeast. I like to use the half gallon starters, 8oz of DME should be perfect for that size. If you wanted to see the same amount of activity you just have to add more dme to your quart size...

    carbination

One tip that I saw was you bottle everything and then the last bit you put in a plastic bottle. Add your priming sugar and squeeze some air out. Then you can tell about how much it has carbonated by how firm the bottle is. I don't like using plastic bottles for brewing but it is a a good...

    non alacholic beer?

I was thinking using this method as well but hat last bit of fermentation will bring the abv to about 0.5% to carb the brew. Just a heads up. Not much but still a little.

    Hops still growing

Well I cut mine back in early October but we have different temps out here. I would say cut them back so they have more nutrients for next season. However i'm not sure that if you cut them back they will not just start growing again. Hope this bumps the thread so someone from your area may...

    Bought first "kit"

Well to start there are quite a few aroma hops out there. I like Cascade(and actually grow it) but I find my self using a lot of Hallertau in my most recent batches. Its all on preference and the taste that you are looking for. Here is a list of most of the hops you can choose from. Hop Guide...

    Greenhorn

Welcome Ducas! Great place for any questions, and an even better place for research. Being able to ask a question here is really easy but sometimes takes a bit of time to get a response. So use the search function as much as you can to find the info you want right now...

Got a Mr Beer for Christmas and now questions.. First post BTW

Bed Bath and Beyond sells them. The MR Beer website. As well as Amazon has them. You can use different types of sugar(white, brown) from you house or DME. Also maple syrup works, just look up how much to use for carbing.

Temp swings on my wheat fermentation

I second whats said above. You should be able to sneak a hydrometer reading off of it without much risk. Tell ya how your doing. If you dont want to open it then wait a few more days and see if there is any more activity. It should be sanitary in there. Would not hurt it to bring the room...

    Recipe question

I'm not having a lot of luck finding the english pale either locally or on the web. I would just go with the Light LME. You are correct in saying that you will get most of the flavor and color from the grains steeped. As far as your total volume boiled goes. Since you are steeping your...

Got a Mr Beer for Christmas and now questions.. First post BTW

Heya Draken, Welcome to the forum this is a great place to be for any questions. I (as many of us have) started with the Mr Beer kits then moved up from there. I have tired both of the methods for carbing and they seem to work about the same either way. You don't have to worry about...

Doh! Added a bit to many fermentables

I feel like I am raising the deal with this post but I wanted to give you guys an update. This beer was not even drinkable after 2 weeks(way to hot). However after about a month it is great! I had some pumpkin Pie spice and vanilla in the batch that I brewed right before this one, and I also...

    A few Pumkin Ale Qs

I just finished my pumpkin brew which was a porter and I skipped the pumpkin all together. If you want it to taste like pumpkin then pumpkin is probably the way to go. Most people associate the taste of pumpkin to pumpkin pie. If thats what you are looking for add pumpkin pie spice 5 min...

Free Bottles - A blessing and a curse

Its a good moral, however im betting that mold was there long before you got them. I get free bottles from my buddies and they have the same problem. *Shrug* Comes with the territory. Good Luck and dont get sick :mug:

Bought a complete brewing kit at a yard sale for $5.00

WoW Congrats Dok! Sounds like a heck of a find there for $5. You can use either of those buckets for primary or secondary fermentation. Its just preferred that you use one with the least amount of space above the beer for secondary fermentation. If your on your second batch I would not...

Doh! Added a bit to many fermentables

Thanks for all for the replies. Ill keep you posted on how things go. Yep im aware that its mostly sugar to those who pointed it out. Im just making a small batch to clear out some extra stuff in my pantry. May not be the most tasty but it will get you from sober to drunk in a couple bottles :)

Doh! Added a bit to many fermentables

Just as I said above I added a bit to many fermentables into my batch. I just plugged everything in and came out with an ABV of around 10.7% Heres the recipe Yields 1 Gallon 1# Light DME 1# 3 oz Dextrose (left overs from Mr Beer Experience) Spec Grain Steeped 20min at 155 2oz Choc...
