    Brewing 1 Gallon Batches

I have not used one of those for 1 gallon batches. What I used was a 2 gallon swing top glass growler( same shape just bigger than the 1/2 gallon). I picked it up at my local HBS and just found the right sized bung for it that fit the airlock. I think it ran me about 8 or 10 $. Well worth it...

Accidentally used bottling bucket for secondary fermentation

I say give the spigot a try. Bottle filler on the end of the hose right to the spigot. If it does not work then you can always try to siphon. Since it is secondary there should be significantly less sediment at the bottom so you might not have a problem. Keep us posted. -BBS

    Is my beer infected?

Hey Cavman As mentioned above giving it time will help. My first infection i described as sour as well and it turned out to have more of a cidery flavor. Which turns out to be lactobacillus(sp?) But fruit beers are tricky Give it a few more weeks to a month, if it starts to go away then you...

First time and some simple questions

Im a rook in this area too but here is what I have found so far. I have been able to leave the burner off for almost half of the mashing process. It is generally around 30 minutes or so that I will have to give it a boost back into range. I think that if you left the burner on you would be...

what coopers kit shood i do next?

I enjoyed the Canadian Blonde. Made last summer and added 5# of cherries in secondary and it came out very nice. Did take a little while to condition out though. Found it best after about 2 months.

Is this a northern English brown or American

Looks like it fits perfectly with an American Brown Ale Style OG 1.054 FG 1.014, SRM 22 with IBU's in the 22+ Sounds like it would be a good one.

    Fermented too hot... fixable?

Well i'm guessing that you got the temp back down to 20 or so. Is your airlock showing activity. You are probably going to have some off flavors but I don't think that it would ruin the brew. It probably was not in the 30's the entire time anyway. RDW it should still be drinkable.

    Refrigerator thermostat controller

There are a couple out there and they are not that expensive here is a link http://www.midwestsupplies.com/homebrewing-equipment/fermentation-equipment/temperature-control.html Hope this helps -BBS

Is it just me or does this recipe look off?

My guess is that it is a 5.5 gallon recipe. The program is calculating it at a 10gallon that is why your abv is so low.

    Cherry Wheat

That looks like it would be perfect to add to secondary. You should retain more of the cherry taste that way at least. Just make sure to give it plenty of time to work down all of the new sugars if you plan on bottling. BBS

    Beersmith????

Good ole beer smith. When your subscription runs out there is a free website called www.beercalculus.com It is not as in depth but it is free and you can search for recipes within the community. As far as the IBUs go you can always adjust for your taste as well. Or set the style you are...

    5 Gallon Carboys

Unless you want to brew smaller batches. 3-4 gallons seem to do alright in my 5g carboy as long as it is not a high gravity brew. I do the same with 1 gallon test batches in 2 gallon glass jugs. But most people feel that if your going to go through the effort then you should do 5g. Either...

Have i ruined my brew with too much water?

+1 to the previous posts. Don't fret over it. On the positive you get 11 more 12 oz bottles out of it :mug: You can plug in your kit ingredients to www.beercalculus.com to figure out the new abv/ibus and what not. Live and learn, and keep on brewing. -BBS

    When to water hops

I'm guessing that your hops are planted about 3-4 inches under soil(that how mine are). I water mine when the top inch or so gets dry and crumbly. Good call letting things dry out you don't want them to rot. Be patient you should have vines climbing in no time. Hoppy Growing:D

    Thank you

Looks Great! Its always fun to get that first batch done. Before you know it you will have 20+ Gallons bottle conditioning or kegged. Only 2 weeks till you can taste it! Thanks for the pic
