NEIPA recipe ?'s and body issue

And does the lactic acid go in as the mash water is heating up as well or do you wait until the mash is going and check it then add it? Sorry, really not familiar with water. Really need to dial that in.

NEIPA recipe ?'s and body issue

So I think I will try this (let me know how this looks): 10 lbs pale 2 row (only ordered 10 for this one) 2 lbs white wheat 1.5 lbs flaked oats 7 oz honey malt Missing 1/2 lb of total grains from the original...problem? hop schedule the same as before. mash at 156 for 60 min What if I did 5...

NEIPA recipe ?'s and body issue

How does the changed grain bill look? All of your numbers there from off the top of my head are close for sure. I will have to figure out bru n water. I have never used it. What is your reasoning for mashing for 60 instead of 90? We have always mashed for 90. Just curious. Your numbers above off...

NEIPA recipe ?'s and body issue

So the changes I made in my grain bill.....will they help or hurt from the original bill or just be somewhat similar do you think?

NEIPA recipe ?'s and body issue

Since its single infusion BIAB we started with 8 gallons....? I am at work and don't have access to my exact notes but I know its pretty close. I use beersmith so it tells me the amount of water to start with. I have not been brewing all grain for a super long time so this was the first time...

NEIPA recipe ?'s and body issue

Awhile back I brewed a NEIPA and thought it was good but was lacking....from the commercial examples compared to mine, seemed it lacked body, "thickness" and lacked some sweetness. I want my next one to be more "juice like". Hard to describe but hope you understand. I have made some tweaks and...

    Yeast starter size?

For example on the different results.....brewunited's calculator with all the same info....says a 1.5L starter will only get me 221 billion cells and still says I need 271 billion cells with simple agitation. So I am confused.

    Yeast starter size?

I am preparing to brew a NEIPA. I am using Omegas new farmhouse's IPA blend yeast. Says it has 150 billion cells. Date on the package is 04-09-2018. On the calculator I have accounted for the date of the package. I have looked up different yeast starter calculators and have been getting...

How to use coffee in a blonde ale

Nope! That’s why I’m not doing it with the beans. just want decent aroma and decent flavor but not crazy flavor since it’s a blonde. I think I’m going to roll with 2 oz for 24 he’s then sample and if it’s not enough I’ll let it go another day then keg...

How to use coffee in a blonde ale

I have done some reading....ill be taking the sanitize step out. And by using whole vanilla coffee beans I wonder how much "vanilla" flavor will I get?

How to use coffee in a blonde ale

Recently brewed a blonde ale. Would like to add some light roasted vanilla coffee beans to secondary for a day or two (like 2 oz?). Curious if anyone has any experience with this? I have heard of a green pepper flavor when using coffee? I want to avoid that like the plague. My plan was to...

    Kinda NEIPA Recipe Questions

Ok, so here is what I am thinking. 10 lbs Pale 2 row 1 lb victory Mash at 149F 1 oz cascade at 60 min 1.5 oz galaxy 1.5 oz mosaic 1.5 oz citra at 5 min 1 oz of each at flame out and then Whirlpool with 1 oz of the three above at 170 F Use us-05 yeast. After fermentation is done dry hop...

    Kinda NEIPA Recipe Questions

So back to my question. What parts of an NEIPA can I incorporate into a normal IPA that won’t oxide? Whirlpool? Dry hop during fermentation then afterwards? Maybe not use 1318 wyeast? No oats?

    Kinda NEIPA Recipe Questions

Hmmm interesting. Id be happy to hear that. Although the true style has oats. But I think maybe leaving them out wouldn’t be that bad. Maybe substitute some flour in the boil to get a little bit of haze and smoothness?

    Kinda NEIPA Recipe Questions

So I have read a lot of threads about the horrors of bottling an NEIPA. I do not have the equipment to keg at this time and want to make a hop bomb. Wondering if I do somethings "similar" to an NEIPA if I will have the same problems that most are having when bottling them. I want to pound the...

Not sure what to tell LBS

I will be going in there soon. I think after reading all of these responses my new mission is to......1. Use him for as much stuff as I can (starsan, bungs, bubblers, yeast, puree, etc). Once I get to know him make the suggestion as....hey it would be nice to buy hops in bigger amounts than just...

Not sure what to tell LBS

Great feedback. Didn’t think of it this way. He doesn’t sell anything in bulk that I a aware of. Or at least not yet. To get the record straight I am not a millionaire. So every dollar counts. For example. I priced my next brew from our normal online order spot. $28 for grains with...

Not sure what to tell LBS

So we have a new local brew store in town. They have been open for about a month. They are easily double the price on grains and hops than what I am used to paying online. He is a dollar or more higher per LB on the grains and is selling pretty much all hop varieties 1 oz for $2. I want to tell...
