    New System Advice/Suggestions Wanted

The reason i was thinking of skipping out on the sightglass on the mash tun was because I was thinking of measuring the strike water in the HLT and pumping it to the mash to heat in the mash. Does this make sense? or do most avoid the extra transfer?

    Dumb CFC Question

Ok thanks for the replies guys. One more dumb followup question. When you go from recirculating back into the kettle and transition to the fermentor, how do you stop the flow through the pump so you can take your tubing out of the kettle and stick it in your fermentor? 1. do you leave the...

    Effects of different mash/sparge temps?

what about sparge temps? Ive heard that you want your sparge temp around 165 F, so depending on the original mash temp, I sometimes sparge in with 180 degree F water to bring the total temp to around 165, is this correct? Why is it that much higher than mash in temps?

    Surly Coffee Bender Clone Advice

Bottled this last night. I drank the little bit that wouldn't fill a bottle, its pretty damn close to the real thing. I might have added a little too much coffee though, the coffee flavor is really intense. I added 9oz of coffee grinds in the secondary and let them soak for 48hrs. I think...

    wyeast 1098 yeast cake

I don't think I need to wash the cake because I used a hop bag and got virtually no hop junk in the yeast. The surly is a milky mud brown color with very few specks of black. I love how easy it was to collect this yeast because of the hop bag.

I have 80' of 3/8". I bought a 20' IC from midwest supplies, it worked fine for 5 gallon batches but I needed to add to it to get it to work in my keggle. I bought an additionaly 60' and soldered it to the original chiller. It doesn't look pretty now, but it cools 10 gallon batches in <10...
