    WLP051 and Ambient Temps

I have 5 gallons of a Cascadian Dark Ale fermenting with this strain of yeast. I decided to ferment at 68 degrees but my mine concern is should the ambient air temperature be at 68 degrees or should the fermenting beer be at 68 degrees? I understand that while fermentation is happening, the temp...

    Poor Man's Brew Stand

That's not necessarily a poor man's brew stand. What I have is more or less a REAL poor man's brewstand. I use 55 gallon barrels with burners placed on top. At 7.50 a barrel, how could I not afford to make a brew stand.

    No Ballast Point in Oregon?

A few months back, I asked around town if anybody had seen or even heard of Ballast Point. Finally, someone mentioned to me that they don't retail in Oregon, but they do in Washington. I did a little research and couldn't find anything on the intranet but couldn't find anything. Hoping someone...

    Penrose Kettle and False Bottoms

Great find! It is possible, but not sure if I want to jump on it right away. Once I get my kettle I'll be sure to check my LHBS before I try this one out. The only thing preventing from getting this now is not knowing whether the legs on the false bottom would be above the spigot or not...

    Brew Day 4-9-11

Man! Sorry to hear you had a few things go wrong. For issue number 5, where's "The Claw" when you need one? If you happen to turn that shed of yours into an official brewing area, I'd love to see that process in a thread.

    Penrose Kettle and False Bottoms

So i'm currently in the (slow) process of upgrading to an all grain system and just purchased a Penrose Kettle (not yet shipped but hopefully soon). I'm still slamming my head against the wall for not having purchased it just a few days before they increased the price. Man, I'm a cheap ass...

    About the Secondary... Yet Again!

I brewed an extract APA using pale LME with specialty grains, brewing with Cascade and Citra hops. Cascade for bittering, then Citra and Cascade as finishing hops. I ended up with an OG of 1.052 and pitched an American Ale yeast blend (WLP060). It was left in the Primary for about 11 days and...

    About the Secondary... Yet Again!

Hello everyone at HBT! This question is for anyone who has dealt with an infection... and as the title clearly states Secondary, please don't include personal infections ;) I'm new to this site and homebrewing, and just finished my first batch not too long ago. I racked to a secondary 5...
