    Should I pitch another packet?

Ok thanks for the replies everyone. Much appreciated. I'll leave well enough alone.

    Should I pitch another packet?

I guess my concern was it taking too long to really get going and producing off flavors which is why I was considering tossing in another packet to get it rolling

    Should I pitch another packet?

I brewed a milk stout yesterday with an OG of 1.051, I pitched a packet of the danstar British ale dry yeast but the wort was a little warmer than I had planned (78-80) when I added it so I put the beer down in my basement to cool it down but then forgot about it and it stayed overnight and...

    Yeast question

I would be fine not decanting I think. I generally use light dme in my starter so I don't know how much flavor that would really add. Plus this will be a stout with some strong flavors so I would guess it would cover up any flavors that may come from the starter anyway.

    Yeast question

If liquid without a starter would work I would probably go that route, I've been told that produces a better beer generally. Of course, I don't really know what people mean by "better", I have to assume better flavor is what they mean. Are there significant flavor differences between dry/liquid...

    Yeast question

I'm going to brew a chocolate milk stout with an OG of 1.051 tomorrow and was going to pitch dry yeast because I don't have a starter prepped yet. My question is this- would one packet be sufficient? Or do I need 2? I would actually prefer to use liquid yeast, but I wouldn't be able to make my...

Question about adding LME at end of the boil

I have a IIPA kit Im making and wanted to try the method of only adding a portion of the LME at the beginning of the boil. Does this only apply to LME? Or DME as well? Should I only add 1/2 the required DME AND LME at the beginning at the rest at flameout?

    How much coconut....

I'll have to look for that, I've never even heard of that before. Is it something that is sweetened? Like coconut shavings used in baking?

    How much coconut....

I actually purchased some coconut extract that I was planning to use but I tried it with a stout I made and got a very artificial taste that I wasn't crazy about. A lot of store bought coconut shavings are already sweetened so I can see where that would cause a problem. I'm wondering if I...

    How much coconut....

I have a 5 gallon batch of brow ale that I would like to add a coconut flair to but I'm not sure how much to add. I certainly don't want an overpowering coconut taste, more of a background flavor. Does anyone have any experience with adding this to a brown ale with good success?

Questions about creating a yeast starter

I completely forgot to pop my starter in the fridge last night, if I was going to just dump my whole starter in my wort is this really a necessary step?

Questions about creating a yeast starter

I created my started Thursday evening to be used today, and up until yesterday it was doing as I expected it (foaming up, etc.) but when I was stirring it foamed up enough to the the point where it touched the tinfoil I had wrapped around the lid and has since stopped foaming up as much. Did...

    Glass v plastic carboy?

I have a bucket that I've used as well, but I do like being able to watch what's going on personally.

Questions about creating a yeast starter

So I'm going to use a growler, but is obviously less than 3 quarts, so I'm just wondering how much I should fill it- half? Would that be enough? A 32oz starter with like 3oz dme?

    Glass v plastic carboy?

Ok I just placed an order for a plastic one. Not going to risk having one of these things shatter on me

    Glass v plastic carboy?

So I'm going to order a new big mouth bubbler from NB and was trying to decide which route to go. Glass seems more durable but the plastic one obviously will be lighter and cheaper, plus I can get it with a built in valve. Any real downside to plastic?
