Keg elevation during fully closed-loop transfer between kegs

I lay down my receiving keg on a 2x4 on edge so it sits at a slight angle but below the bottom of the fermenter.

    Is this correct?

I think I got it from Home Depot. It was expensive but beats the crap out of moving the dryer, unplugging it, plugging in the brewery, moving the dryer back, brewing, moving the dryer, unplugging the brewery, plugging in the dryer, and moving the dryer back every time I want to brew. IMO, it...

Making the best, West Coast IPA

Why use the term “bbl” (barrel)? Not many homebrewers brew 31 US gal. BTW, is that a US BBL (31 gal) or UK (36 gal)? 😂 Assuming US; 2-5 lb/bbl ≈ 32-80 oz/31 gal ≈ 1.03-2.58 oz per gal. just simplify it and say 1-2.5 oz/gal (US). Homebrewers understand that.

    Is this correct?

To use my dryer socket, I plugged in this switch, then plugged the dryer to one socket and my brewery to the other socket. I had to use an adapter between the brewery plug and this socket. now when I want to brew I just flip the switch. If I were in your shoes I’d call the electrician and...

    Secondary Fermentation

I closed transfer every beer to a CO2 purged keg fitted with a spunding valve with 1-2% of extract remaining, raise the temp to 5°F higher than fermentation temp to allow the beer to secondary there. The residual yeast transferred with the beer consumes any O2 I inadvertently introduce, finishes...

Chilling: How Fast and How Far?

I maintain mash temp by running the wort thru a heat exchange coil in a hot water bath (aka HERMS). After the boil, I replace the hot water with cold water, and recirculate the wort thru it to chill. I’ve never timed it but I can imagine it takes 45 min to an hour to reach pitch temp. The return...

    Low Enzymatic/Cold Mash/Low alcohol beer

Well, the taste test of the NEM Vienna Lager is less than stellar. It just tastes… weird. Kind of a soap flavor or something. I’m going to give it some more time but at this point it’s a dumper. It makes me wonder if the juice is worth the squeeze. My goal remains low(er) carb, full flavor...

    Silicon Tubing Oxygenation During Racking

Have you considered EVA tubing? “EVABarrier double wall tubing is an excellent choice for all draft dispensing applications. The inner barrier is an excellent gas barrier, keeping oxygen out and CO2 in. The inner wall is also extremely smooth to prevent bacteria and other microbes from...

Extract Beers Are Cleaner and Tastier Than My All-Grain Beers

I was in the same boat. I began to look at it this way: everything that uses water to clean with, wastes water. Washing the car, washing clothes, washing dishes, washing me. It all ‘wastes’ water. Just add this to the list. You could collect the waste to use elsewhere to reduce impact. “Yes -...

Extract Beers Are Cleaner and Tastier Than My All-Grain Beers

You say you have used RO water to brew all grain, and you use Brew’n Water as your water spreadsheet of choice. Can you give the salt additions you used in your strike and sparge? Where I am headed with this: My goal is to narrow the focus solely on mash pH. That means RO water with 1 tsp CaCl...
