Can you do anything about oxygen in beer?

A agree with airborne. That thing had to have a head of pure CO2 over it, after fermenting for 5 weeks. No worries, just be stoked you didn't have a broken carboy and a huge mess/possible injury on your hands!

New Yeast Supplier- anybody heard of "Real Brewer's Yeast"?

OK, so I am in for being the guinea pig. I went over and met the guy- nice and seems to know is stuff. Has propogators, shake plates, and a really cool deep freeze full of goodies. He gave me some of his "monk" strain that was extra from the last batch he made up for a local brewer...

Can I Show you my Belgian?

Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah- I lost the orange in my last brew, too. You are saying just transferring wort onto the orange peel, or doing the vodka-soak-addition-to-secondary thing?

Can I Show you my Belgian?

Hey Folks! I was lucky enough to be given some fresh westmalle yeast from a local yeast supplier. In looking at supplies, I see I have Saaz and Styrian Goldings laying around, along with some sweet orange peels and grains of paradise. Belgian pale, here we come! I would love feedback from the...

    Belgian Pale Ale Feedback?

Hey Folks! I was lucky enough to be given some fresh westmalle yeast from a local yeast supplier. In looking at supplies, I see I have Saaz and Styrian Goldings laying around, along with some sweet orange peels and grains of paradise. Belgian pale, here we come, especially, since the...

Blichmann on NG- heat from the burner affecting the NG hose?

So, I just got this thing hooked up. I am wondering if I need to be concerned about the amount of heat coming from the burner affecting the NG hose. It seems like it's far enough away, but I am looking for some experienced reassurance. Any comments, suggestions, reassurances, warnings?

New Yeast Supplier- anybody heard of "Real Brewer's Yeast"?

So, I went ahead and wrote to them- exchanges a couple of emails. At first the info I got back wasn't that helpful, but then he wrote me again and provided something a little more useful. I thought I would share. I am all for a successful yeast supplier in my home town. I think I will give...

New Yeast Supplier- anybody heard of "Real Brewer's Yeast"?

Anybody heard of these guys? I think they are new, and just so happen to be in my hometown. Just curious if I missed them somehow or if they are that brand new. Limited info from their website. Thoughts on info needed from a potential new yeast supplier before letting them inoculate your...

Cooling wort without running water: HELP

Seriously! I was surprised. It showed up in the afternoon while I was heating water for a post Christmas brew! I figured, ok then, let's break it in! Worked great! Thanks!

Cooling wort without running water: HELP

Just wanted to share how stoked I am on the pump setup to cool wort- no more flooding the backyard or running the garden hose in the house. Did ground water until 110, then ice water to get the rest of the way. Still took about an hour, but went through a fraction of the water. Next time, I...

Cooling wort without running water: HELP

Sweet! That is actually the one I bought, since I had free shipping for it on prime. And thanks for the carboy washer tip- will have to work that up on the next project!

Cooling wort without running water: HELP

Can somebody post a link to an affordable, workable pump that they use to run ice water through their IC to chill it? I have seen 20 dollar numbers to $80, and don't want to over or underspend. I thought I saw a link for one that was around 40 around here somewhere, but can't seem to find it now.

    Willamette and Centennial Complimentary Hops?

I don't grow my own hops, but cascade seemed to me the most likely candidate also- although I agree totally biased and unfounded. I don't have any experience with the centennial, cascade, Willamette combo, so that is precisely the opinion info I am going for- nothing conflicting with that...

    Willamette and Centennial Complimentary Hops?

Yeah, I was thinking of splitting the difference between the two as well. Thanks for pointing out that an even split may not match the tasting notes, but I think I am ok with that. This was my thought, too. Glad to hear my instincts echoed.

    Willamette and Centennial Complimentary Hops?

Greetings HBT folks! Looking for a little help for a brew I am planning for this weekend. I am looking at the AHA winners circle recipes and like the look of the Drunk Monk Amber Ale: http://wiki.homebrewersassociation.org/DrunkMonkAmberAle The issue I am having is with the "Homegrown...
