Fridge temp controller - compressor? keep freezer cold?

Hmm..... So I may be best off finding a french door design and hacking out the middle. That way I'll have more space. I say this because I assume the freezer will still be cooler than the fridge and that freezer space would be virtually useless. What if I get a mini-fridge? Can I fit a...

Fridge temp controller - compressor? keep freezer cold?

Hi All, I'm very new to brewing (first batch is fermenting). A friend of a friend told me the best thing he ever did was make an old fridge into a fermentation box, said it had a bigger effect on the beer than going AG. Either way, I've been reading the ebay aquarium temp controller...

    Kit Recipe Make Sense?

So sitting in secondary/clearing for a few more weeks will help fix that problem? Should I just dump this and start over?

    Kit Recipe Make Sense?

Dumb question alert!! What exactly is bulk aging? I have heard the term a bunch and don't know exactly what it means. :rockin:

    Kit Recipe Make Sense?

That's what I figured was the best way to do things. What should I do now that it's sitting in secondary?

    Kit Recipe Make Sense?

Unfortunately I've already transferred to secondary and this Sunday will be the 11th. Would I benefit from letting it sit in secondary for longer? Should I just bottle it, RDWHAHB, and make my next batch the "right" way?

    Kit Recipe Make Sense?

Hi, I'm working on a start kit from LHBS. While it's been fermenting/in secondary I've been reading forums 24/7. I bought the kit from Beer & Wine Hobby in Woburn, MA. They've been awesome and don't seem like they'd steer me wrong. I know they get a bad rap on this forum but they've...

New Brewer Looking for Bottle Cleaning Advice

So true. Just did my first batch and I soaked in the Walmart version of Oxiclean and ran throw the dishwasher. I paid the price for not sufficiently rinsing the bottles. Took a long time with a bottle brush but live and learn. I recommend Sun oxygen cleaner from good old Walmart. It was $2...

Why are there twist-offs and pry-tops?

Valid point. Never thought of it that way!:mug:

Why are there twist-offs and pry-tops?

Interesting. So it was a response to cans becoming available in the market. I always wondered because it feels like twist off bottles feel less hefty and generally "cheaper". What never made sense is that you'd think the microbrews who have fewer resources would use the twist offs.

Why are there twist-offs and pry-tops?

His may be a pointless question but I've always wondered. Why do some breweries use twist off caps and some use the pry tops? Is it the cost? Image? Oxygen seal?

    Newbie rack to secondary...questions

Hi All, So I racked my first batch to secondary this evening and have a few questions/comments. 1. After reading countless posts I went out and bought some Star San (side note - went to LHBS just for Star San but walked out with vinator, drying rack, and beer thief as well - SWMBO wasn't...

    Procedures for cleaning bottles

That is sort of my mind set too. I'm "green" with those whole hobby and would rather spend money on something that will enhance the quality of my brew. What really confuses me with home brewing is that it seems there are 10 ways to accomplish the same thing. One stage vs. two stage, star...

    Procedures for cleaning bottles

I think this will be my course of action I'll go with. Seems like it's fool proof and relatively simple. Also, the bottle brush in the cordless drill is good thinking!

    Procedures for cleaning bottles

Cheap enough, shall do. But what does it do that the dishwasher can't though? I'd assume the high temps alone would kill any bacteria, no?

    Procedures for cleaning bottles

What is the difference between OxiClean and OxiClean Free? Doesn't that seem like more sanitizing than is needed? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I'm new to this and honestly have no clue.
