    Controling hot break boil over

I turn down the heat some then use a fan and aim it over the top of the boil kettle. I find that the fast moving air that goes across the top of the BK cools the surface down and the foamy break subsides quickly!

    Simple SSVR-controlled e-BIAB rig

I'd like to send out a BIG THANKS to pogden for his design and this post. I had fun with this build and it was very cost effective compared to other builds I've seen and built. It works great and so far I am very happy with the results.

    Simple SSVR-controlled e-BIAB rig

Yes..that is what I did. Added 2 terminal strips inside the box, the spst switch to the cover and wired the switch with one hot lead from the input side of the contactor to one terminal strip, and the other to the neutral terminal strip. That way I don't have to have the element or even the push...

    Simple SSVR-controlled e-BIAB rig

OK..I have been toiling about the problems that others have run in to concerning this build and have just completed my test of it successfully...however with a change on how the switch is wired. I'm using 240v 30 amp dryer plug to power this panel. Here's how I wired the SW1 240v switch...

How-To: Solid Copper Auto Siphon Build w/ Common Tools & Materials

Nice project! Thanks for posting this. I always wanted to build a better version of the auto-siphon but had no time. I wonder if a 3/8" SS ball bearing would work out better that the one used here? Maybe a SS version of it would be good too? Nice job anyways...gonna make one soon!

O2 Results from my new O2 meter!

5.2G wort in a 6G Better Bottle I have no way to check pressure but the bubbling was at a medium rate to not let the surface "churn". Thanks!

    PID help

stiverp...what model/type of SSR are you using and what would be the control side voltage requirements of it? If it has a 4-20mA requirement, by the looks of the PDF the SSR should be wired to terminals 6 & 8 which is NO (normally open). Please correct me if i'm wrong..! Also, you indicated...

    SSR problems

a visio dwg would be very helpful at this point as long as it reflects the actual way you have it wired now.

    110v eHERMS build

Well..I'm not so sure if it's that much of a safety issue but having the ability to turn off the element by the flick of a switch for whatever reason is very handy at times if needed during the brew session. I have my panel setup this way and find that option very useful at times. It also makes...

    110v eHERMS build

How many gallons are going to be brewed? Also, as it stands now, I hope your power IN is 20 amps. I would think about gaining more control and a bit of safety by adding an ON/OFF switch (rated for 20 amps) in between the load (element) and the output side of the SSR. We're going to need to know...

    PID as a thermometer

as long as you have them hanging around using them for that application would be fine. I use one of these to monitor mash temps directly and use their liquid proof sealed RTC probes and it works perfectly.
