What works better: Wort Chiller Question

There's not a better, I do both. I run the hose through the immersion chiller until the wort temp is under 100F then switch to pumping ice water through it. The output is pumped back into the ice water. I save the first output water from hose chilling in my HLT and use it for cleaning.

    MoreBeer.com

I've been a morebeer customer since at least 1999 when they were beerbeerandmorebeer.com (the domain still forwards) with dozens of orders including 5 during the last year. I relied on them exclusively in the early 2000s when I lived for 5 years where there wasn't a LHBS within 100 miles. I've...

    Bag vs Basket

It is also possible to burn a hole in a bag when using a propane burner. Ask me how I know. But full disclosure, that was operator error. In the past I had recirculated wort through the bag with a pump and never had an issue turning on a burner for a short period. That is, I never had a...

would this "automatic" submersible pump work for a keg/carboy washer?

I have used the exact pump (1/3 hp superior) that IslandLizard recommends above for about 3 years for washing kegs. I believe I paid less than $50 for it at the time. I also use it to pump ice water through my immersion chiller at the end of a brew session. This saves a ton of water and allows...

Toxic Weed Killer Found in Almost All Beer and Wine Brands ... Including Organic

I would be surprised if alcohol didn't turn out to be a more probable carcinogenic than glyphosate. Also, since homebrewers are using the same grain and hops as the beers tested we likely have similar levels of glyphosate in our homebrew. A Forbes article suggesting the risk may be overblown...

HERMS, RIMS, Step, Decoction. A statement, question and/or opinion

You can read all you want but imo you won't be convinced until you compare the results of the same beer made using different methods. I wasn't at least. Based on many brewing trials (and some errors) I now only use a Hochkurz step mash schedule when I'm brewing a German lager.. Those beers...

Automated Brewing Help. Electric/Propane automated hybrid rig

I ended up doing pretty close to what you are considering. I used a Honeywell gas valve to control heat on my HLT which has a herms coil in it. I used a simple on/off gas valve for the heat under my boil kettle. For the mash tun I used an igloo cooler and then pump the wort from it back...

Weird Honeywell wiring issue.. I need help!

I just turned my 2362 on and confirmed I that I used the same settings as in your picture except for Hy where I used 1 and Atdu where I used the default setting of 10. Hope you can figure out what's wrong.

Weird Honeywell wiring issue.. I need help!

I used a 2362A in my control panel and its outy Control Output Mode setting is also set to 4 (J2 as on/off control relay contactor output; SSR output disabled) so if yours is too then it is in on/off mode.

Weird Honeywell wiring issue.. I need help!

Is the 2362 set in on/off mode? I think it may have to be for gas valves.

Looking to get a used smoker & need advise please.

I own both a Big Steel Keg, which is a kamado style cooker, and a RecTec pellet smoker. I like and still use them both but for ease of use and functionality with anything under 500 degrees the RecTec pellet pooper can't be beat. Previously I've owned or still own a WSM, two different Weber...

Tippy dump system vs traditional horizontal brew rig w 2 pumps.

I think the MB tippy dump systems are either natural gas or LP powered. Are you looking at a used or new one and if used, is it NG or LP? What about the 25 gallon system--how is it powered? Are the costs of the two systems you are considering equivalent? Lots of things to consider imo.

    HBO's Chernobyle mini-series

Good show. Good leads. Good supporting cast. Good script. It spent too much time showing pets being hunted down but otherwise 5 out of 5 stars.

    Tilt Hydrometer issues

My tilt is in a Speidel fermenter in a 10 cf chest freezer and it connects to a RPi zero w running tiltpi located about 5 feet away from the tilt. I get readings every few seconds with this setup and the signal is strong.

    cabinator cap

Never tried my cap, which looks the same as the one in the URL but I bought it on amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K4GGYT0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. with anything but C02 however it works great for that so you at least will end up with a nice piece of...

Want to eventually convert Honeywell natural gas valve and burners to propane

I have a single tier 3 vessel natural gas powered herms system I built several years ago which works well and has given me zero trouble other than the self-inflicted kind so I'd like to continue using it for the foreseeable future. However it appears that in the next couple of years we will...
