My Red Rye IPA brewed this past Sunday taste watered down.

I dont know what to tell you. Maybe I cant read a hydrometer? My other IPA that just finished has a gravity of 1.040 when it should be 1.063. Coming in at only 4% abv. What causes such a low gravity? edit: I think I realize what happened. I calculated with the boil was all said and done was...

My Red Rye IPA brewed this past Sunday taste watered down.

Out of curiosity I took a gravity reading. Currently its sitting at about 1.060. I think when all is said and done it will be about 1.043. The color is really nice and has a great hop notes but mouth feel at first feels thin and taste a little watered down. I got a new carboy which is 6.5...

    Completed my Second Batch

If I am not mistaken potassium sorbate is use to STOP fermentation. You killed the yeast before it could eat the sugars to carb. I would probably just pasteurize it and leave it flat.

    First Cider...Still confused

Question, if you bulk pasteurize before bottling, is carbing even an option at that point? If I prime the bottles there wont be any yeast alive to eat the sugars, right? My plan because I think I want to carb the bottles is to prime when bottling and using a tester, a plastic bottle. Once the...

Made my first cider -- questions.

I made 5 gallons of cider, used ale yeast, yeast nutrients and its fermenting furiously. Actually, so much so I had a krausen explosion this morning, I since have placed a blow out. I have been reading that sometimes cider can ferment dry, so once I get it to an ABV and/or taste I prefer how...

    Etched glassware?

I have a couple of friends visiting me and I would like to get them just 2 pairs of pub glasses with their business logo etched. However, I can only find vendors that etch and sell glassware in cases or more. Does anyone know where I can order just 2 of 4 etched glasses? Thanks.

[4th batch] Trying to perfect my methods and have a few general questions.

Sounds good. For this weekend I will steep with a gallon per lb of grain and then add water to the boil to equal 5 gallons while considering boil off. I am going to guess 6.5 gallons total should get me to where I want to be. I have been moving all my beer to a secondary primarily because I...

[4th batch] Trying to perfect my methods and have a few general questions.

    1. The very first thing I am noticing is that I am not getting as much beer as I would like to. Thus far I have brewed 2 IPA's, a wheat (that I accidentally dry hopped) and this weekend I will be brewing a Red Rye. Whats the best way to get closest to 5 gallons? Should I steep grains in 6.5...
