    The Value of a Starter

Interesting. I just used a Wyeast smack pack for my first brew. Looks like I'll have to try a starter next time. :mug:

    My favorite beer glass

An Erdinger aniversary glass I got in a 5 pack (#6 was the glass) of 0.5 L weiss beer. I tried to buy a glass like this (except not aniversary) from the waitress at a restaurant in Helen, GA while on vacation during Oktoberfest but was denied as they didn't have enough. It took me another year...

    first-timer angst

I just got my first brew into primary with an og 10 points higher than the kit stated. I think I could have added more water before sealing the fermenter. I don't think its any big deal, just that fermentation may take longer and the beer may have a slightly thicker mouthfeel. Though, some...

So maybe racking a 1.100+ RIS on top of a Breakfast Stout Cake wasn't so smart...

Holy crap! - I've seen blowoffs but nothing like that!

First Brew - Brewer's Best Dunkelweizen

I'm going to leave it alone. I've done more reading and although 3056 or 3942 would have possibly been more like what I was aiming for, I'd probably screw things up even more by adding a second pack. This would essentially cause overpitching to the 3333 which would actually bring out more...

First Brew - Brewer's Best Dunkelweizen

Having second thoughts on the 3333 yeast - I think I might have been better served by the 3056 Bavarian Wheat or even something with a more subdued hefeweizen character. Considering tossing in a second pack (3056 or maybe a smooth English ale yeast) on an early transfer to secondary. I really...

First Brew - Brewer's Best Dunkelweizen

I've been thinking about my high OG today. This is my first brew and it didn't occur to me that I could add more water after the OG measurement (besides, fermenter was already sealed up). I had just added enough water to come up to the 5 gallon mark on the bucket and thought that would be...

    Primary in bedroom

Mines in the bedroom closet right now. However, this closet has one exterior wall and one garage wall so with cooler outside temps my fermentation temperature has been maxing out at 72F but ususally stays at 70F or below. I can't hear it at all. I would probably forget it was there if I...

    last night's commercial beer experience

The first time I had a SA Summer Ale (Draft) I loved it. Next time was crappy because of dirty keg lines. Next time out of a bottle wasn't bad but wasn't quite right either. I enjoy the Boston's but I'm not a big fan of their other offerings.

    3: Batch#1: Brew Night

As mentioned in the previous entries, I'm brewing a kit of Brewer's Best Dunkelweizen So things went pretty much according to the instructions in the kit. I took a handful of pics but wish I had a few more of the steps and a good shot of the OG reading. (1) Activated Wyeast 3333 German Wheat...

First Brew - Brewer's Best Dunkelweizen

Original gravity was 1.061 at 65F. Temperature correction gives 1.062 OG. Daves Dreaded Actual Specific Gravity Calculator Average temperature of the fermenter is between 68-72F right now. I'm lightly considering throwing it an a trash bag and setting it outside tonight for an average...
