Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Honey & Chamomile Wheat: What a way to end a long day

Considering making this in a few weeks. (all grain--5 gallon) I have not had great experience with honey flavor coming from a flameout addition, what are the thoughts on adding .5# honey malt (and dropping down .5# of wheat) and adding 1# of honey shortly after high krausen? Also, what is the...

    Foolish/rash CL buy--need to vent

Hey All, Perfect place to vent...maybe even get some support. My buddy and I split the cost of a converted kegerator from CL. It was kind of a rash buy, we have been talking about making the upgrade for some time and when we saw the post we just went with it. Probably paid a little too...

About to make my first keg purchase...advice

Hey All, About to make the big move to kegging. I found a kegerator (convereted stacked fridge freezer) along with a Pony keg, co2 tank, regulator, tubing, tap on CL. A few questions: 1. I would like to add two more taps, do you think would I be able to fit 2 more cronies in there with...

    Hope Scale Question

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0MC0KX8242 Good scale? I can getit for $15. Can't tell how many sig figs I can get on it. Want it to at least show one decimal place. I imagine I will not use it for more than 2 ounces at a time, but as low as .25 oz. (mainly for hops)...

    Cider Head Retention Idea

Hi All, Something that bothers me about Cider is the lack of head retention. I love it, just no head. I was thinking to brew a gallon or half a gallon of just flaked wheat and tossing into a 5 gallon batch. Thoughts? Maybe add a little apple extract before botteling to keep the flavor...

Adding honey to an American Cream Ale

I don't know too too much about it, but I've added at around flameout and nothing came through. Just boosted the gravity. I've heard at high krausen works well. I intend on doing this next time I use honey. Other option...use a bit of honey malt.

"Bastard" Ales - Who does these and how?

For a while I was collecting the extra pre-boiled wort from themash and was going to brew with it once I had a workable amount. It smelled rather interesting, but than I moved and sadly threw it away. Sorry for the anticlimactic story.

Honey IPA (w/ some wheat?) recipe---critique please!

Interesting points. I want to keep it as a Pale Ale/IPA type ish. You make a good point about overpowering the honey. I was originally thinking floral hops, but noticed citra was used a lot with honey. In order to combat the overpowering, what do you think about raising the honey to 1#? As well...

Honey IPA (w/ some wheat?) recipe---critique please!

Hmm, all really good points. I am looking for that honey taste. Call it what you want, but I want a slight bitterness to it, maybe more of a pale than an IPA. I wanted the Munich to give it some more character and malty notes. I am going to drop the oats, you are right. Do you think the...

Honey IPA (w/ some wheat?) recipe---critique please!

    Okay, cool. I still really want that strong sweet flavor...here is where I am at now. 6.5 # 2-row .75 # Honey malt 1.5 # wheat malt (white?) .5# of flaked oats (does this matter? good ratio? etc) 1 # Munich 10 L .5 oz CTZ @ 60min .5 oz Citra @ 60min 1 oz Citra @15min 1 oz Citra @5min Yeast...

Honey IPA (w/ some wheat?) recipe---critique please!

Thanks for all the feedback. I have never used honey malt before, and didnt realize it was so strong. I am going to scale it down to .75#. And increase the base malt and wheat. What are the thoughts on doing 1# wheat malt and 1# of flaked wheat? Or 1.5# wheat malt and .5# flaked? I will add...

Honey IPA (w/ some wheat?) recipe---critique please!

Hmm, thanks for the feedback. I was considering adding some more late hop additions for the aroma, maybe even a dry hop... Regarding the honey, I threw honey in the boil one time and it went straight to fermentables, with no trace of it in the taste. If I do use honey, is there a moe opportune...
