    Naming your beers?

I decided to go with a baseball theme for my beers. Diamond Devil Scottish Ale (they are a team in the Scottish Baseball League) Fat Pitch Amber Ale (my altered fat tire clone) Bitter Cricket Ale (for my English bitter) Blind Umpire IPA (blind pig clone) Fall Classic Cider Rockford Peach...

My First Recipe, Mint Chocolate Stout

I know this thread is a little older, but Stone did a collaboration brew that was Mint Chocolate stout and it was pretty good.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I get that. I can't stand Guinness for the most part, but I think I don't like the nitro part of it. I like the extra stout thought. It's just funny to that some of the pretty heavy hitters (abv wise) I've had are IPAs and they aren't dark at all.

    Birth Announcement!

My boys like to help me fill and cap the bottles. My oldest will be 5 In June and #2 will be 3 on the 18th. I love the beer birth announcement idea. I wish I would have thought of that before #3 was born. She'll be 3 weeks tomorrow. It will be a while before she is one of my assistants.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Opening day for my kiddo #1's baseball league was on Saturday. We had a booth for and sold tamales. The parents running the booth were having a hard time getting thrm warmed up and I told them that I wish they would have said something seeing that I have a propane burner for such things...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Especially at $13 a bottle. I don't mind paying a premium price for a good beer. At the same time, I can get a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada for about that price and get 12 bottles to eventually put my own beer in! Heck, a cheapy kit at MoreBeer (my LHBS) is about double that price.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Totally agree. It was the biggest letdown though given the price and all. The worst beer I've had was an IPA at a local brewery. It had a strange plasticy taste. My buddies and I thought it was a one time deal, but we tried it a few months later and it was still pretty bad.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I had high hopes for that beer. Maple Bacon donuts are freaking awesome as is beer (obviously). I was extremely disappointed in the beer and the $13+ price tag. Cool looking bottle, though.

Would love feed back on my new process

My boys were more than happy to help me bottle last weekend.. Mommy wasn't exactly excited that her little guys learned how to bottle beer (they helped with the wand and capping a few times) but they were occupied for a bit!

    Yeast Cake questions..

Yeah, after reading through all of this, i'll just spend a couple of bucks on a new packet.

    Yeast Cake questions..

A couple of questions.. I have a Scottish Ale fermenting away in a bucket right now and I am about a week away from bottling. I can't remember what yeast I pitched into it (it was part of my kit from Midwest). I have an Irish red kit from them as well that came with Munton's. After snooping...

My First Recipe, Mint Chocolate Stout

I've only done a couple of kits, so I don't feel qualified commenting on the specifics of a beer recipe, but I do know that mint is a tricky ingredient. I've trashed a handful of homemade mint chip ice cream recipes because the mint was entirely too strong. There is a really fine line between...

It will probably taste better than Miller Lite, though!

    Newbie question about oak chips

I could presumably use other liquors I suppose (just not sure if whiskey or bourbon really matches an IPA)

    Newbie question about oak chips

As part of my xmas gift, my lovely wife got me a Blind Pig IPA recipe from More Beer. The kit came with oak chips to put in a secondary. Can I just add the chips in the primary once the wort cools down? Should I add them to the primary after the active fermentation has settle down? And should...
