    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Haven't posted in here before, but I enjoy an occasional pipe smoke. My dad smoked a pipe always when I was young. I smoke a Dr. Grabow De Luxe 9845. It is a very nice smoking pipe circa late 1930's. I am a lucky bastid in that I still purchase from the same quality shop my...

    Backyard Brewpub

I have a new job and my kids are growing up. Life is better than ever on my end. I hope and trust your brewery is still running well?

    Cast Iron Pans, good brands?

I have all All-Clad cookware (including non-stick) and I use my Lodge Logic cast iron just as much. Any brazing or cooking operation where you need HOT heavy handed heat, you can't beat the huge cast iron pan. They simply hold more heat than a SS pan will. I barely ever use my non stick stuff...

Incredible as always! You are cranking out a lot of beer huh? Or are you serving other people's beer too?

    Water analysis

I have my water tested and adjust to the beer I am brewing. It made a large difference for me.

    North Yorkshire Water Help

Nope. I'll send a message to Blacksheep. They have been extremely helpful with my questions about brewing Yorkshire ales.

Appropriate power cord for 120V 2000W RIMS

On a dedicated circuit (nothing else plugged in) and 20 amps, you will not use all the amps available. That is both theoretically and in my experience. Of course, actual amp usage will depend on your actual voltage at the outlet.

    Wyeast contradiction

Under pitching isn't in itself a problem. Indeed, many times an under pitch is the desireable pitching rate. Very basically, when you under pitch (inoculate with a relative small number of yeast cells), the yeast will reproduce more and each yeast cell will be counted on to do more work. This...

Appropriate power cord for 120V 2000W RIMS

    1) Yes, your thinking is correct. You will draw under 20A with everything running. The only thing to be mindful of is what else is running on the circuit you are using. 2) I have made power cords in the past for most builds. Otherwise, you should be able to get a heavy duty cord at most big...

Pitched two weeks ago and nothing..advice?

How do you know there has not been any fermentation. On the contrary, if your yeast had failed you would mostly likely have an active infection now. It think it is more likely that your beer is done and ready to be packaged.

Three-N-One Bulkhead - Stop Swiss Cheesing your Keggles

As Bobby mentioned, your sight gauge will not be accurate during fluid flow, and you will need to seal the sight glass to maintain a siphon. You will need to deal with those issues, but otherwise it should work. I wouldn't want that particular setup, but I can see how you are attracted to it...

    Sharing a Citra IPA recipe

This internet stuff is serious business. Dryness is a subjective term. A beer with 8abv and a finishing gravity of 1010 will be comparably more dry when tasted next to a 4abv beer with a 1010fg. Dryness refers to a sensation of flavor and sensory analysis in your mouth. If we were talking...

    Sharing a Citra IPA recipe

By this time, this evening, I make no apologies for statements made or comments logged. That said... Bob, you are missing the boat. You initial premise is right. Replacing malt with sugar will create a drier beer. The problem with this whole discussion is one of semantics. "Drier" is a...

Red Hot Iron Inserted in Beer? Gustungling?

This is also similar to a traditional flip. Beer, some batter (usually proprietary but often including egg, sugar, spices), and a fortifying spirit. The flip was then scalded with a red hot iron. I don't understand why people call this stuff a gimmick. If it is fun and tastes good then who...
